Description
Do you like working with people of all ages and helping them find what they need in the library? The cozy and family oriented Miller Park Branch of UAPL is looking for an individual to complete our team. This position is responsible for checking items in and out, working with patrons of all ages to help them select library materials, and assisting patrons in using other library services such as computers or research databases.
Job Summary :
Participates in the operation of a full-service library branch including serving patrons, maintaining collections, and assisting with special services and programming.
Examples of Duties
Essential Functions :
- Provides patron information about a variety of library and community services, resources, and information.
- Provides patron assistance with circulation of materials including checking in and checking out items and retrieving held items.
- Responds to general questions and specific questions relating to library accounts including collections.
- Monitors and provides guidance to patrons in the use of the library facilities, equipment, and services. Instructs patrons on the use of the computer-based library catalog and computer programs.
- Responds to basic questions on the availability and location of library materials. May place holds on patrons' behalf. Contacts patrons regarding circulation and materials issues.
- Promotes and educates patrons on the use of online resources such as the library catalog and digital resources.
- Assists patrons using their personal devices using library materials.
- Responds to reference questions using all formats available and performs reader's advisory.
- Assists in the development of reader's advisory tools including booklists, bibliographies, and displays.
- Assists with collection maintenance including weeding and repairs.
- Assists in program planning, set-up, and delivery.
- Retrieves and processes items that have been requested to be held at current location or sent to other locations for pickup.
- Sorts, organizes, and shelves library materials.
- Shelf-reads assigned areas and re-shelves out of place items.
- Empties books drops and organizes materials.
- Maintains reserved items.
- Identifies materials in need of repair / replacement and takes appropriate action.
- Conducts items searched as assigned.
- Serves as staff in charge, as needed.
- Trains new staff members as assigned.
- May assume independent responsibility for assigned specialized work area.
- Oversees opening and closing procedures.
- May count money, reconcile with reports, and prepare deposits.
- Serves on library committees as assigned.
- Follows library safety and emergency procedures.
- Reports maintenance and safety issues to supervisor and / or Facilities personnel.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

Part-time Benefits :
The Library provides vacation and sick leave benefits as well as paid holidays for part-time staff.
All staff members are participants in the Ohio Public Employee Retirement System (OPERS). The Library contributes 14% of each staff member's salary to OPERS and each staff member contributes 10% (in lieu of a social security payroll deduction). Additionally, staff members can contribute to their retirement through the Ohio Public Employees Deferred Compensation Program.
