The City of Upper Arlington operates a custodial Summer Day Camp program for ages 6-12. Under the supervision of the Day Camp Director, the Camp Assistant Director is responsible for assisting the Director in planning and implementing a variety of fun activities, trips and engaging weekly schedules for participants throughout the summer. Camp Assistant Directors are responsible for following and ensuring Camp Leaders and participants follow all City and Camp policies and directives. This is a 40-hour 10/11 week position with a maximum of five unpaid vacation days.

- Ensures the safety and well-being of all campers throughout the duration of Camp.
- Supervises Camp Leaders and provides guidance and feedback on a daily basis.
- Assists with camper check-in and check-out on a rotational basis with the Camp Director.
- Assists with the creation and implementation of a weekly camp schedule which includes a variety of FUN and engaging games and activities throughout the duration of camp.
- Participants in and ensures active participation and engagement with participants during games, field trips, pool visits and both active and passive play.
- Communicates with parents/guardians, answering question and resolving concerns in the absence of the Camp Director.
- Maintains and ensures all pertinent forms are completed in a timely manner, i.e., Discipline Log, Field Trip Permission Forms, Worker’s Compensation, etc., in the absence of the Camp Director.
- Serves as a role model for staff and campers.
- Creates a Camp environment where staff is free to share ideas and initiate new practices to enhance staff and camper experiences.
- Assists staff and campers in building self-esteem, independence and confidence.
- Communicates camp activities to parents/guardians using the designated software/apps, etc. in the absence of or at the direction of the Camp Director.
- Assists with preparation for weekly field trips, including forms, payment, camper accommodations, etc.
- Responsible for the administration and documentation, in relation to the City’s Medication Administration Policy as it relates to individual campers.
- Demonstrates enthusiasm and positive energy for camp as a whole.
- Demonstrates regular, predictable and punctual attendance.
- Provides guidance and feedback on policies, procedures and general Camp operations to staff.
- Responsible for organizing and executing engaging weekly arts and crafts projects for campers, fostering creativity and teamwork.
- Additional duties may be assigned as warranted.
- Interest in and ability to assist in the supervision and overall direction of Camp Leaders in building a cohesive, fun team.
- A passion for working with children and a genuine commitment to the wellbeing of campers.
- Ability to work independently.
- Ability and experience to engage and supervise staff and campers.
- General interest in recreational play, programming and having fun.
- Must possess the knowledge, experience and/or educational background suited to the requirements of the position, including ambition, initiative, outstanding communicative skills, organizational skills and a general interest in helping children learn and grow.
- Must possess the ability to lead and participate in camp activities which include, but are not limited to: running, jumping, skating, sustained walking, swimming, and similar physical activities as directed.
- Must possess the ability to remain outdoors for a sustained period of time throughout the day and over the course of the summer.
- The City of Upper Arlington will determine the hourly rate for Camp Assistant Directors annually.
- This is a 40-hour, 10-11 week position with a maximum of five unpaid vacation days.
- All Camp Assistant Directors must complete an annual drug and background screening.
Salary : $16 - $18
