The City of Vacaville is accepting applications for the position of IT Specialist I/II in our City Manager's Office. Currently there is one (1) IT Specialist vacancy. This recruitment will serve to establish an eligibility list that may be used to fill additional vacancies that could occur over the next 12-month period.
Salary Information:
Information Technology Specialist I $70,502 - $85,696
Information Technology Specialist II $77,552 - $94,265

Information Technology Specialist play a key role in ensuring the smooth operation of technology across various departments. This position involves working closely with employees to enhance their digital experience and supporting critical systems that keep the organization running efficiently. It requires a balance of technical expertise and strong communication skills to bridge the gap between complex IT solutions and everyday users. Whether troubleshooting issues, optimizing workflows or implementing new tools, this role is essential in driving innovation and maintaining a secure, connected workplace.
Duties within this role include, but are not limited to:
- Provide first-line technical support for department staff, troubleshooting software, hardware and network issues.
- Install, configure and maintain computer systems, peripherals and network devices.
- Coordinate user training and create documentation to help staff navigate IT systems with ease.
- Monitor and maintain system security, user access and IT policies to keep everything running smoothly.
- Assist with server and network administration, including managing user accounts and permissions.
- Collaborate with vendors and IT teams to implement new technologies and enhance systems.
- Support GIS functions (if applicable) by managing data, designing maps and troubleshooting applications.
- Participate in City-wide IT projects that improve efficiency and innovation across departments.

Information Technology Specialist I
Education: An Associate’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Management Information Systems, Networking or a closely related field is preferred.
Experience: One (1) year of experience providing technical support for the operations, installation and maintenance of computer systems, data communications or other related field. Experience working in a networked environment is desirable.
Information Technology Specialist II
Education: An Associate’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Management Information Systems, Networking or a closely related field is preferred.
Experience: Two (2) years of experience performing duties and functions similar in scope, responsibility and technical expertise to the Information Technology Specialist I in the City of Vacaville. Experience using Microsoft Deployment Toolkit or other deployment tools and troubleshooting Active Directory and Group Policy is desirable.
