ABOUT OUR JOB

Recreation specialists work in a variety of programs including:
Adult and Youth Sports
- Providing support for youth and adult sports activities and leagues
- Facilitating programs for individuals with disabilities
Concessions
- Taking food orders and operating food preparation equipment
- Perform facility, site and equipment set-up and take down (works nights and weekends)
- Support staff with coaching programs and activities.
- Organizing and directing event activities for the Vacaville community, such as: Creek Walk, VacaCon and Merriment on Main.
- Support the TGIF program, youth events and summer camps.

Part-time positions are paid an hourly rate and can work up to a maximum of 129 hours per month. Some positions may require working irregular hours including nights, weekends and holidays. Part-time positions are at-will, are not eligible for health or retirement benefits and do not accrue leave time with the exception of State-mandated sick leave (40 hours per year).
ABOUT YOU
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education: None required.
Experience: None required. Some related work experience is desirable, such as working in a recreation or sports environment with the public of any age, working with youth, or providing customer service and cash handling.
License or Certificate: Select positions may require the possession of a valid California Class C Driver's License and a satisfactory driving record as conditions of initial and continued employment. Must be at least 18 years of age if required to drive vehicles for City business.
Select positions may require the ability to obtain CPR & First Aid Certificates within 30 days of hire.

Applicants receiving a conditional offer of employment must provide a valid TB certificate and successfully complete the pre-placement process for this position before a final offer will be extended. Pre-placement assessments for these positions may include experience verification, Livescan (FBI/DOJ fingerprint review) and/or drug screen.
Part-time positions are not covered by Social Security and are not eligible for the City of Vacaville's retirement plan through CalPERS and are therefore required to make 7.5% pre-tax contributions into a qualified plan under the Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act of 1990 (OBRA). For the City of Vacaville, the plan is a Section 457 Deferred Compensation Plan through Nationwide Retirement Systems, Inc.
