The City of Vacaville is accepting applications for the positions of Junior Engineer/Assistant Engineer/Associate Civil/Traffic Engineer in our Public Works Department, which includes Development Engineering, Design, Inspection and Traffic Engineering. Currently, two (2) vacancies exist in this classification. This recruitment will also establish an eligibility list for future vacancies that may occur over the next 12-month period.
The Junior Engineer/Assistant Engineer/Associate Civil/Traffic Engineer position is flexible in staffing and may be filled at either the Junior (entry) level, Assistant (journey) level or Associate level depending on candidates' qualifications and departmental needs. Individuals may progress to the next level upon meeting higher-level qualifications.

SALARY INFORMATION:
Junior Engineer $102,455 - $124,537/Annually
Assistant Engineer $111,010 - $134,909/Annually
Associate Civil Engineer $122,112 - $148,403/Annually
In addition, this position is eligible for a remote/hybrid work schedule.

- Design and Manage Projects: Prepare engineering plans, specifications and cost estimates for City infrastructure, such as streets, water systems and parks.
- Collaborate Across Teams: Work closely with consultants, contractors, City departments and the public to coordinate and oversee projects.
- Fieldwork and Inspections: Conduct site visits, inspect construction projects for compliance and resolve design or construction issues.
- Traffic and Transportation Solutions: Prepare reports, studies and recommendations to improve traffic flow and ensure safety.
- Manage Land Development Projects: Collaborate with private developers on housing and commercial development projects.
- Community Engagement: Provide technical information to the public and present at City Council and community meetings.

Junior Engineer
Education: Equivalent to completion of a Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited college or university in Civil Engineering or closely related field.
Experience: None Required
License or Certificate: Possession of a valid Class C Driver’s License and a satisfactory driving record are conditions of initial and continued employment.
Assistant Engineer
Education: Equivalent to completion of a Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited college or university in Civil Engineering or closely related field.
Experience: Two years of professional level civil engineering experience in plan checking, design, construction or contract management of public works projects. Some work experience in a lead capacity is desirable.
License or Certificate: Possession of an Engineering-in-Training (EIT) certificate is required. Possession of a valid Class C Driver’s License and a satisfactory driving record are conditions of initial and continued employment.
Associate Civil/Traffic Engineer
Education: Equivalent to completion of a Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited college or university in Civil Engineering or closely related field.
Experience: Four years of professional engineering experience including at least two years of experience similar to the City of Vacaville Assistant Engineer. One year of work experience overseeing technical staff and/or project management is highly desirable.
License or Certificate: Possession of a certificate of registration as a Professional Civil Engineer in the State of California or possession of a certificate of registration as a Professional Civil Engineer from another state and the requirement to obtain registration in California as a condition for completing the probationary period. Possession of a valid Class C driver's license and a satisfactory driving record are conditions of initial and continued employment.A completed City of Vacaville Employment Application and Supplemental Questionnaire must be received by Human Resources at 650 Merchant Street, Vacaville, CA 95688 by 5:30 p.m., Monday, February 10, 2025.
