Examples of duties include:
- Exercising technical and functional supervision of program staff;
- Mentoring the work of staff and volunteers;
- Facilitating site meetings as well as attending required staff meetings;
- Assisting with managing site/program specific budgets;
- Being the liaison/point of contact for participants, parents, customers and school site;
- Marketing and social media;
- Recordkeeping and basic administrative duties;
- Scheduling of staff;
- Preparation of written and verbal reports and correspondence;
- Monitor, maintain and safeguard operating funds;
- Extensive customer service and
- Overseeing facility maintenance.
Part-time positions are paid an hourly rate and can work up to a maximum of 129 hours per month. Some positions may require working irregular hours including nights, weekends and holidays. Part-time positions are at-will, are not eligible for health or retirement benefits and do not accrue leave time with the exception of State-mandated sick leave (40 hours per year).
The ideal candidate will possess strong customer service, leadership, and written and verbal communications skills. The ideal candidate will be knowledgeable of social media and have experience marketing program activities.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Any combination of education and experience that would provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:
Experience: Equivalent of two (2) years of work experience performing increasingly responsible duties in a position equivalent to a Recreation Specialist II. Work experience may be supplemented with volunteer experience if the volunteer experience is related to duties similar to a recreation specialist. Volunteer experience is subject to verification and will be prorated based on actual hours volunteered.
Specific Education or Experience Requirements:
- Gymnastics: Six (6) months of gymnastics or closely related experience is highly desirable; possession of a related certificate such as a current United States of America Gymnastics (USAG) National Safety certification and a professional USAG membership is highly desirable.
- Youth Services: College-level coursework is preferred in Early Childhood Education, Child Development or Psychology, and one (1) year of work experience in a leadership capacity in a related youth-oriented or classroom environment is required.
- Adaptive Recreation: Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS) certificate is preferred.
License or Certificate:
Select positions may require the possession of a valid California Class C Driver's License and a satisfactory driving record as conditions of initial and continued employment. Must be at least 18 years of age if required to drive vehicles for City business.
