Senior Civil Engineers develop and implement goals, objectives, policies, procedures and priorities for an assigned engineering section. Senior Engineers plan, assign, coordinate and supervise staff engaged in a variety of engineering projects.
Job duties for this role include, but are not limited to:
- Assist in developing goals, policies and priorities for the engineering section, while guiding staff on project schedules and methods.
- Provide engineering support to staff, consultants and the public, ensuring standardization and quality in capital improvement plans and specifications.
- Review and prepare grant applications, technical reports and ensure compliance with stormwater discharge requirements.
- Support project design, GIS-based mapping systems and maintain positive relationships with coworkers, City employees and the public.
$129,765- $157,730 annually
This position may be eligible for a remote/hybrid work schedule.

Ideal Candidate
In addition to the minimum requirements, the ideal candidate for the position will possess the following:
- Knowledge of engineering principles and practices.
- Expertise in public works construction methods.
- Understanding of contract administration procedures.
- Familiarity with municipal utilities regulations.
- Ability to manage multiple engineering projects.
- Strong decision making on complex issues.
- Skilled in staff supervision and training.
- Effective report preparation and analysis.
- Proficient in interpreting technical data.
- Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Experience: Four years of increasingly responsible experience in professional civil engineering within water or wastewater utilities, public works design or construction, or traffic, including two years equivalent to an Associate Civil Engineer with the City of Vacaville.
LICENSE OR CERTIFICATE REQUIREMENTS
Possession of a valid certificate of registration as a Professional Civil Engineer in the State of California is required.
Requires the possession of a valid California Class C driver’s license and a satisfactory driving record as conditions of initial and continued employment.A completed City of Vacaville Employment Application and Supplemental Questionnaire must be received by the Human Resources Department at 650 Merchant Street, Vacaville, CA 95688 by 5:30pm, Monday, May 5, 2025.
