The City of Valdez Parks, Recreation, & Cultural Services Department is hiring a Recreation Coordinator.
This position, under supervision of the Assistant Parks and Recreation Director, will plan, organize, promote, implement, and evaluate community recreation programs, including arts, cultural and enrichment programming, outdoor and adventure activities, special events, games, sports, camps, classes, and athletic programming; supervise personnel in planning and facilitating recreation activities; and coordinate City sponsored events such as Memorial Day Weekend Community Picnic, 4th of July, Community Tree Lighting, Clean-Up Day, Runs & Races, and all other events as assigned; assist fellow Recreation Coordinator(s) in completing departmental tasks or other special recreation functions.
Position is open until filled, review of applications begins on February 18, 2025.

Two (2) years Parks and Recreation program experience or related public sector program management, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.Two (2) years minimum background working in recreation programming.Background working with adults & youth; either as a coach, supervisor or event coordinator.Two (2) years experience programming background in outdoor recreation, special events, and ongoing general recreation activities.Experience working with multiple agencies.Valid State of Alaska Driver's License, or ability to obtain within 30 days.Must be able to pass a background check. PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :
Develop and implement a broad community recreation program, including indoor and outdoor activities, recurring and one-time programming, camps, classes, leagues, tournaments, events, etc. and all activities related to City sponsored events.Hire, train, schedule, supervise, and evaluate recreation staff.Foster public-private partnerships to fill gaps in recreation programs and services.Provide exceptional customer service to both internal and external stakeholders.Analyze recreation trends and patterns; incorporate industry standards and best practices.Monitor equipment, manage snack bar purchases and resale, procure program and facility supplies and materials.Collaborate with fellow Recreation Coordinator on developing and implementing programmingMaintains cooperative working relations with City departments and outside agencies.General oversight of scheduled activities and manage daily operation as assigned by the PRCS Assistant Director of the Salmonberry Ski Hill and other outdoor Recreation venues; Valdez Public School facilities; the Ike Woody Woodman Recreation Center.Coordinate facility reservations and program registration.Perform various administrative duties, e.g., answer phone, operate copy machine, etc.Performs other related duties as assigned.KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND OTHER CHARACTERISTICS :

Work is performed in various Parks and Recreation venues.May be subject to frequent standing, walking, lifting (up to 50 lbs).Must be able to work in an outdoor environment (year-round) in inclement weather.This position works variable hours to include evenings, weekends and holidays.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS :
