What are the responsibilities and job description for the PT RECREATION LEAD SUMMER CAMP INSTRUCTOR position at City of Vero Beach?
Under general supervision, assists City staff in qualified instructing at various recreation programs or specialty area programs; and performs related duties as assigned. A high level of independent judgment is necessary.The following duties have been provided as examples of the essential types of work performed by positions within this job classification. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
High School graduate or equivalent; College graduate preferred or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS:
Licenses and Certifications may be necessary to be instructors in safety related recreation programs.
- Instructors can plan, conduct, evaluate and instruct at a variety of community recreation programs or classes and/or specialty area programming such as youth athletics, summer program, special programs or events including Leisure Square activities, or age appropriate activities including gymnastics and performing arts.
- Assists in planning organized activities for age appropriate clientele and may lead and oversee planned activities.
- May develop lesson plans and curriculum for designated classes within the guidelines of departmental policies and/or certifying agency regulations.
- Where necessary inspects equipment and facilities used on a regular basis to ensure safety and cleanliness and reports discrepancies to the department.
- May arrange for supplies, equipment and proper facilities in a timely manner.
- May supervise and assign duties to assistants and/or volunteers.
- Observes standard operating procedures and safety practices.
- Knowledge of City and departmental policies and procedures.
- Knowledge of effective customer service principles and techniques.
- Knowledge of sports rules and regulations.
- Ability to plan and participate in recreation programs and activities for target residents, and to work effectively with children of all ages.
- Ability to safely operate assigned equipment and demonstrate safe and correct techniques with proper equipment in an appropriate environment.
- Ability to follow written and oral instructions.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, co-workers, children and the general public.
- Ability to communicate effectively.
- Works irregular hours as scheduled including nights, weekends and holidays.
- May have exposure to the elements and potential exposure to infectious disease or personal harm when working outdoors.
- Sports apparatus or equipment, gymnastics equipment, etc.
