This is an excellent part-time job opportunity for an individual to provide support and work with the patrons of the City of Victoria Public Library. The Library Aide (Part-Time) will perform a variety of detailed clerical work in the library, including extensive reshelving of books and materials and collecting library materials from various bookdrops. The ideal candidate will deliver high-quality library services to the community and exemplify a positive attitude each day.
Responsibilities :
- Support and embrace the vision, core values, and communication agreements of the Victoria Public Library.
- Demonstrate a patron-centered attitude and maintain a professional, team-oriented working relationship with staff, coworkers, and volunteers.
- Perform extensive material handling, shelving, and shifting in the library’s circulation unit.
- Use a computer workstation to access the library’s automation system for daily circulation activities involving addition, deletion, or updating.
- Assist in the pickup of materials around the library and locking the entrance doors.
- Work at the circulation desk assisting patrons in checking in and out of library materials.
- Collect fines and fees.
- Receive and sort donated materials for library use.
- Perform duties in a safe and orderly manner, complying with all City and department safety rules.
- Be available to work nights and weekends.
- Maintain regular attendance at work and arrive on time.
- Perform all other job-related duties as assigned or as they become apparent.
- Ability to get along with other employees and the public.
Physical Requirements :
Employee does extensive walking and standing. Employee climbs ladders, stretches, twists, kneels, crouches, and squats while performing routine functions at the library. Employee frequently lifts and carries items weighing up to 30 pounds, occasionally lifts / carries up to 45 pounds, and routinely pushes / pulls book trucks weighing up to 300 pounds.
Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills :
Ability to read and understand manuals in order to access the library’s automation system. Ability to understand and cross-reference filing systems. Ability to work with a computer. Excellent customer service skills while working with patrons, citizens, and vendors. Ability to be an organized team player who serves the public and other employees with dedication to communication, teamwork, and actions reflecting quality, innovation, and accountability.
Minimum Education, Experience, and Certification :
Must be at least 17 years of age. If still in high school, a diploma or GED is not required. If no longer attending school, a high school diploma or GED is required. No experience required.
