JOB SUMMARY
Under general supervision, the Streets Maintenance Worker provides manual labor following basic routines during construction, repair, and maintenance of City streets, curbs, sidewalks, and drainage facilities.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assists in the installation and maintenance of City streets, curbs, sidewalks and storm sewer system.
- Operates and uses hand and pneumatic tools as needed, including jackhammers, gasoline tampers, hack saws, cement mixers, compressors and storm sewer jetting machine,
- May be required to operate and use a tandem axle dump truck or water truck after successfully obtaining a Commercial Driver’s License.
- Performs duties in a safe and orderly manner, complying with all City and department safety rules.
- Complete forms for inspections of equipment and records of work performed.
- Reading and comprehending operating and instruction manuals, chemical labels, and police manuels.
- Regular attendance at work and arrives on time.
- Other duties as assigned.
PHYSICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS
Work is performed outdoors and requires exposure to inclement weather conditions, exposed to dirt, dust, noises, fumes, odors, water, and mud. Will also be exposed to chemicals, mechanical, electrical, and traffic hazards. tools, equipment, and machinery, and hazardous chemical. May be required to traverse uneven surfaces, bend, keel, twist, and climb. Employee will work in confines spaces and trenches. Employee is required to lift and carry materials weighing up to 100 pounds.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- High School diploma or GED.
- Texas Class C Driver’s License
- Class B Commercial Driver’s License with tanker endorsement within six (6) months of hire.
- Work safety and safety set up policies, procedures, and practices.
- Operate vehicles and equipment used in repair and maintenance of streets, curbs, sidewalks, and storm sewer system such as tampers, jackhammers, pneumatic tools, and storm sewer jetting machine.
- Communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
- Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships.
