What are the responsibilities and job description for the BH/DS Behavior Specialist I position at City of Virginia Beach?
The City of Virginia Beach Department of Human Services is seeking to hire a Shift Leader who has experience directly supervising staff including three (3) years or more experience working with adults with intellectual disabilities in an ICF/ID Residential setting for the Indian River Intermediate Care Facility (ICF) in the Developmental Services Division.

Responsibilities:
- Assess all client needs and activities for the day and provide direction to other direct care staff.
- In collaboration with the nurses, coordinate staffing and transportation for medical appointments and other daily activities.
- Demonstrate good knowledge of medication process, including look behinds, counts, reviewing the MAR, etc.
- Complete tasks required for primary client if assigned.
- Implement IPPs for 10 clients.
- Maintain general Human Rights knowledge with ability to identify and properly report situations when necessary.
- Maintain and complete fund ledger for primary client if assigned.
- Attend and advocate for clients at medical appointments and complete related documentation.
- Communicate in an effective, respectful, professional fashion, using methods easily understood by the client and staff involved.
- Work with the QIDP to identify strengths and needs and contribute to development of training objectives for client(s).
- Identify and defuse crisis situations and contact necessary program staff for reporting purposes.
- Complete periodic documentation reviews of client and program records.
- Assist with hiring and onboarding of new staff.
- Ensure completion of assigned tasks per House Manager or Supervisor II.
- Assist DSP staff with completion of direct care and daily activities.

*Hiring bonuses shall only be for new hires of original employment or reemployment as defined in Human Resources Policy No. 5.0.
$ 500 will be awarded in the first paycheck.
$1000 will be awarded upon completion of the six (6) month interim performance evaluation with an overall rating of “Meets Expectations”.
$1,500 will be awarded upon completion of the employee’s one (1) year probationary period and a performance evaluation with an overall rating of “Meets Expectations”.
