What are the responsibilities and job description for the Business Development Coordinator position at City of Virginia Beach?
The City of Virginia Beach Economic Development is seeking a dynamic and motivated Business Attraction Coordinator to join the Economic Development team! Reporting to the Deputy Director, this leadership role manages the business attraction team and plays a key part in driving the city’s economic growth.
Essential functions include:
- Develop and execute innovative strategies to attract new businesses, generate leads, and manage domestic and international attraction projects that align with the city’s goals for a growing economy and tax base while providing opportunities for residents.
- Supervise the business attraction team; develop, monitor, and evaluate staff performance. Effectiveness is evaluated annually through established performance indicators and metrics that measure economic impact.
- Represent and advocate for the City of Virginia Beach at meetings, conferences, and face-to-face negotiations for domestic and international companies considering the city for investment.
- Assist in the negotiations with prospects considering the City and preparing, when necessary, recommendations for an EDIP grant and presentation to the Virginia Beach Development Authority (VBDA), and at times City Council.
- Collaborate with Department leadership to oversee prospect visits and RFP submittals for prospect inquiries.
- Lead the Attraction team’s CRM (Salesforce) management efforts, ensuring the system is used effectively to track business leads, opportunities, and stakeholder interactions.
- Work with the Virginia Economic Development Partnership (VEDP), and the Hampton Roads Economic Development Alliance and represent the City of Virginia Beach regarding prospects visits and requirements for information for competitive analysis purposes.
- Collaborate strategically with the City’s business retention and expansion (BRE) team and workforce development team efforts.
- Conduct research and monitor national and international trends and policies that impact the city’s attraction strategies.
- Support promotion of Virginia Beach as a place to do business both nationally and internationally.
- Willing to work outside of standard business hours as required.
- Perform other job duties requiring skills, knowledge, and physical requirements needed.
