What are the responsibilities and job description for the Direct Support Professional II position at City of Virginia Beach?
The City of Virginia Beach Department of Human Services seeks to hire a Direct Support Professional II (DSP) with experience utilizing Electronic Health Records and three (3) years or more providing total care to persons with developmental disabilities in a residential or long-term care setting.

Available Shifts:
- Sun - Thur, 2 PM – 10 PM
- Tues - Sat, 6:30 AM - 2:30 PM
Specific Duties:
- Complete all required documentation to show progress or regression towards the participant’s plan goals within the quality and deadlines outlined in regulation and policy.
- Complete all required billing processes to ensure the program to accurately and ethically bill for services provided.
- Maintain the health, safety, and well-being of the participants in the program. Actively provide input into ongoing needs and resource identification processes.
- Identify, schedule, and support participants to participate in various community integration opportunities.
- Transport participants with the use of a city vehicle and/or personal vehicle (dependent on program and city vehicle availability).
- Provide training and support to participants to aid in obtaining, maintaining, and excelling in their jobs. Ensure work materials are available to the participants at the beginning of their workday. Serve as liaison between the individuals and their employer’s supervisory staff.
- Assign duties to the clients and assist with work-related issues including completing unfinished work, as needed, in order to maintain good standing with the employer.
- Ensure that assigned participants are involved at all times in meaningful work activities or, in the absence of work at group job sites, in activities meaningful to the development of work skills. Serve as an advocate to ensure the participant’s employer’s policies, procedures, and job site opportunities are applied fairly.
- When deemed necessary and appropriate, administer medications without error and utilize the appropriate process outlined in the policy.
- Ensure all participant’s rights are intact and always enforced. Uphold all confidentiality, Human Rights, and Home and Community Based Service (HCBS) Rights at all times. Report any incidents of suspected fraud, waste, or abuse immediately to a supervisor.
- Follow all incident reporting processes pertaining to participant care. Manage behavioral and crisis situations utilizing Therapeutic Options Techniques.
- As needed or assigned, obtain and provide information and documents to Clinicians and Behavior Specialists that will ensure that participant charts meet quality standards for corporate compliance and reimbursement.

**Hiring bonuses shall only be for new hires of original employment or reemployment as defined in Human Resources Policy No. 5.0.
- $500 will be awarded in the first paycheck.
- $750 will be awarded upon completion of the six (6) month interim performance evaluation with an overall rating of “Meets Expectations”.
- $1,250 will be awarded upon completion of the employee’s one (1) year probationary period and a performance evaluation with an overall rating of “Meets Expectations”.
