Public Works Operations is seeking a motivated Engineer II/III for the Technical Services and Asset Management bureau. This position may be classified as an Engineer II or Engineer III depending on qualifications and experience of the selected applicant.
Engineer II (Pay Range: A14 $67,264.80 - $104,260.44 DOQ)
Engineer III (Pay Range: A17 $77,867.40 - $120,694.47 DOQ)
The selected applicant will provide comprehensive engineering support in all areas of civil engineering, with a focus on roadway, coastal, and bridge projects. Comprehensive engineering work will entail independent actions and decisions on design, project management, contract management and operations. Project management related duties include planning, design, cost estimates and construction of Public Works' infrastructure. Representative work functions may include but are not limited to:
Review submitted design plans and construction activities on several types of complex projects to ensure city and VDOT standards are met.
Investigate and resolve difficult technical and operational challenges to keep plan review procedures and project design activity functioning smoothly.
Oversee the City’s Bridge Inspection & Maintenance Program, including maintaining & tracking inspections, load ratings, maintenance and repair of City bridges & culverts.
Solicit and manage the contractor for bridge inspections, rehabilitation and repair plans. Utilize computerized maintenance management software for asset management.
Develop scopes, manage the design and construction of bridge maintenance, repair, and rehabilitation projects.
Manage Capital Improvement Project (CIP) for inspection, maintenance, and rehabilitation of the City's major bridges, overpasses, and culverts. Including tracking and reporting program funding, directing contractor on priorities, monitoring and documenting accomplishments, and leading program meetings.
Provide technical response to citizen inquiries concerning specific projects to properly inform them as well as incorporate their input as appropriate.
Coordinate projects with several interdepartmental agencies and the private sector to meet project goals and schedule.
Manage annual services contracts for inspection, maintenance, and rehabilitation of the City's major bridges, overpasses, and culverts.
Coordinate with internal bureaus of Public Works, other City departments, outside agencies, and the public. Prepare and deliver presentations related to the Paving Program, including annual accomplishments, performance metrics, and funding.
The selected candidate will be required to complete the FHWA Comprehensive Bridge Inspection Training.
**This position is ALPHA I and will be required to work during all inclement weather (flooding, hurricanes & snow, etc.)**
