What are the responsibilities and job description for the Engineer IV position at City of Virginia Beach?
The City of Virginia Beach, Department of Public Utilities is seeking an Engineer IV to manage the Sewer Pump Station Program in the Design & Construction Bureau of the Engineering Division.
The Engineer IV performs a variety of engineering duties of a complex nature which may include any combination of :
- Overseeing project management of CIP projects to ensure efficient administration and implementation
- Provides program support for Sewer Pump Station Modification Program
- Provides supervision, training, and support to technical / professional staff
- Design or review of design plans and specifications for subdivisions, highways / roadways, storm drainage, water and sanitary sewer projects ensuring all federal, state, local, and city codes and standards are adhered to and that good engineering practices are followed
- Will prepare or assist in the preparation of operating and CIP budgets
- Coordinates projects with other City departments, federal / state agencies, other municipalities, and private sector to accomplish project completion on time and within budget
- Responsible for assisting in the planning, management, and supervision of a major bureau to provide for an efficient and productive staff
- Provide responses to City leadership and citizen inquiries concerning specific projects
- Meet with citizens to properly inform them of projects, and to incorporate their input in a courteous and timely manner.
- The candidate should have :
- Demonstrated proficiency with supervising technical staff (engineers and technicians) in performance of CIP design and / or construction project management and developer plan review for water and sanitary sewer systems
- Extensive experience and knowledge of highway (including VDOT projects), water / sanitary sewer utility, drainage facility, and design and construction to include sewer pump station projects
- Extensive experience and knowledge of sewer pumping system hydraulics for a major utility system
