Job Duties:
Job Duties will support GIS mapping of Public Works infrastructure data and inventory in a Geographical Information System (GIS); Researching existing utility and site plans and compile project information to accurately reflect existing conditions; and the Integration of GIS with data from work management software (Cartegraph), AVL applications, and other databases as needed.
This position may be filled as either an Engineering Technician I or Engineering Technician II depending on qualifications and experience of selected applicant.
Engineering Technician I Pay Range G.22 $47,803.80 - $74,095.89
This individual will perform a variety of GIS tasks with direct oversight of an Engineering Technician III or higher-level position. Representative work duties (depending on qualifications) include but are not limited to:
- Accurate mapping of underground and aboveground Public Works assets from Technical Drawings, Construction Plans, or Survey Drawings
- Accurately field locate and geospatially verify Public Works assets using GPS, or other digital field mapping applications
- Coordination with inspectors and surveyors as needed for infrastructure data collection
- Collaborate with team members on time managed mapping projects
- Strong creative thinking skills utilized in editing large geospatial datasets
- Develop and Maintain Stormwater and Streets location maps
- Generate Python, Arcade, V-Basic scripts to filter, populate, and manage large geospatial datasets
- Manage inventory and minor maintenance of large plotters
- Manage and maintain an editor version in a versioned geospatial SDE
Engineering Technician II Pay Range G.24 $52,703.70 - $81,690.74
This individual will perform a variety of GIS tasks of a moderately complex nature that ware regularly reviewed by an Engineering Technician III or higher level position. Representative work duties include the but are not limited to:
- Work Duties of an Engineering Technician I
- Creation of presentation quality maps
- Developing models and Python scripts to Automate common workflows
- Coordination of tabular data in combination with geospatial datasets
- Utilizing ArcGIS tools for data interpolation
- Database querying using language unique to the work management system, Cartegraph
- Creation and publication of maps through ArcGIS Online
- Integration of AVL (Automatic Vehicle Location) data into GIS using the ESRI Geoevent Processor
- Assist team effort to continue providing accurate, concise data with quality control tools such as filters, scripts, searches, and critical thinking skills

Minimum Requirements:
Engineering Technician I
Minimum Qualifications: High school or GED plus two (2) years’ experience in a related field such as civil engineering, drafting, surveying, or planning; demonstrated CADD/GIS/computer experience, or any equivalent combination of experience and formal training that provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
Engineering Technician II
Minimum Qualifications: High school or GED plus five (5) years’ experience in a field associated with civil engineering, drafting, surveying, or planning; demonstrated CADD/GIS/computer experience, or any equivalent combinations of experience and formal training that provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

Preferences:
- Proficiency in the use of the ESRI GIS Software VER 10.2.2 or later.
- Bachelor’s Degree or Career Studies Certificate in GIS from an accredited College/University.
- Surveying or GPS Experience.
- Python Scripting and or use of ArcGIS Model Builder
- Spatial Data Engine (SDE) Experience
- ArcGIS Pro and ArcGIS Online Experience
