Our team is looking for a Financial Specialist who will conduct routine research and analysis to develop departmental financial reports; prepare program cost analysis reports; perform purchasing functions while ensuring compliance with procurement guidelines; monitor and reconcile departmental expenditures to budget; prepare analytical reports and forecasts; reconcile revenue and expenditures. This role is responsible for grant reporting; assists with 1099 processing; records retention schedules; review of bank deposits and vendor payments; prepare journal entries; perform monthly general ledger close-out functions; prepare written analytical and statistical reports for Aquarium Management and prepare complex financial analysis as requested.
This position will be expected to maintain detailed, accurate, and timely records that track the financial transactions for the department or division’s programs, services, contracts, and projects. Effectively communicate with city and foundation employees, external agencies, and customers on financial status and transactions; effectively supervise the work of others. Improve accountability and reduce or eliminate errors for financial transactions.

Minimum Requirements:
MINIMUMS: Requires any combination of education above a GED and/or experience equivalent to five (5) years in a field such as account clerk utilizing the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: All employees may be expected to work hours in excess of their normally scheduled hours in response to short-term department needs and/or City-wide emergencies.

Preferences:
Strong preference for financial/accounting experience in a nonprofit zoo or aquarium or similar industry; financial/accounting experience in a municipal government setting; Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field that includes accounting studies; experience with a nonprofit financial management software suite (Blackbaud Financial Edge); experience with governmental accounting software (Oracle, PeopleSoft); financial reporting experience; skill with user oriented software packages (Microsoft Excel, Word); experience developing detailed worksheets, schedules, and financial reports; experience with maintenance of financial records for multiple entities within an organization; skilled in clear and concise communication (both oral and written) of financial information; experience with FocusPoint ticketing system.
