What are the responsibilities and job description for the Mechanic Technician II position at City of Virginia Beach?
The City of Virginia Beach Public Works-Fleet Management Heavy Duty Shop is currently hiring a Mechanic Technician II.
Representative work duties include but are not limited to:
· Perform maintenance on Heavy-Duty vehicles such as oil changes, lubrication, safety checks, and battery checks.
· Perform repairs such as minor/major tune-ups, replacing water pumps, hydraulic lines and hoses, and hydraulic trailer brakes.
· Troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair electrical systems and electric over hydraulic controls, Repair de-watering pumps and diesel engines.
· Perform hydraulic system, repairs including hydrostatic.
· Perform repairs of Heavy-Duty hydraulic brakes, air brakes (for 25-ton off-road dump trucks), wet-line brakes, and Rockwell Q-Type brakes.
· Service/repair Allison transmissions.
· Perform other Heavy-Duty vehicle/equipment related maintenance.
· Performs State Inspections if licensed.
Position Requirements:
All employees may be expected to work hours in excess of their normally scheduled hours in response to short-term department needs and/or City-wide emergencies.
Must be available to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and overtime when required to meet operational needs.
This position may require that employee wear and maintain appropriate personal protective equipment such as, but not limited to, steel toed shoes, safety glasses, gloves, or other designated safety attire and equipment in designated areas of risk. Specific requirements will be determined and communicated by the employee’s supervisor based on position assigned.
This is a safety sensitive position and is subject to mandatory drug testing. Positive drug test results may result in counseling and/or discipline, up to and including, termination. Successful completion of a pre-employment physical.
THIS IS AN ALPHA I POSITION REQUIRING THE EMPLOYEE TO REPORT DURING INCLEMENT WEATHER EVENTS AND OTHER EMERGENCY OPERATING CONDITIONS.
Please Note: This position requires the incumbent obtain a valid 609 Refrigerant Recovery Certification and CDL within the first year of employment (the probationary period).
