Job Duties:
The Media and Communications Coordinator II serves as multimedia brand designer for the Communications Office to ensure consistency with established branding and project requirements and develop deliverables to support various client assignments. The successful incumbent will work with staff in the department and around the City to develop/implement designs that support the full range of public relations, marketing and media relations projects and initiatives associated with promoting programs/services/events with the public by providing both graphic design and copy writing services. This position will write copy for internal and external communication materials including presentations, training materials, email responses and letters. There may be additional opportunities to contribute to long form written projects and video scripts.
Responsibilities include:
provide graphic design services for addressing issues and promoting programs, services or events
provide artistic services for internal and external communication materials including brochures, newsletters, displays, presentations, advertisements, brand graphics and other materials
develop and coordinate graphic concepts and conduct research to determine the priority, method and materials to be used; prepare preliminary layouts, conceptual schematic studies and freehand perspectives relating to departmental goals
use computer systems, various software applications and other graphic arts media to produce visuals or proofs of the final products in single to full color separations.
provide graphic design support for the City's websites and/or social media sites, which can include design of site styles, page layouts, information architecture, navigation schema, online graphics, advertisements, multimedia and related materials
collaborate with web team and internal customers in developing site designs
work directly with programmers to ensure compliance in technical issues
develop custom text and graphic content and adapts existing content to a web-friendly format
create graphics, page layouts and design templates for city web sites to enhance and maintain the city's web presence and online communications efforts

Minimum Requirements:
MINIMUMS: Requires any combination of education (above high school level) and/or experience equivalent to six (6) years in fields such as public relations, communications, marketing, or journalism utilizing the required knowledge, skills and abilities. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: All employees may be expected to work hours in excess of their normally scheduled hours in response to short-term department needs and/or City-wide emergencies. Positions within this class have been designated as Alpha I positions requiring employees to work during inclement weather, regardless of the Citys operational status.

Preferences:
- 5 years of work experience (ie. work experience in addition to education) in marketing/communications/public relations or related field.
- Degree in graphic design, marketing, public relations, journalism or related field.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Experience with accessible design best practices
- Experience utilizing a full array of communication tools available to reach a wide variety of audiences.
- Extensive experience in developing content for communications materials
- Experience in brand development
- Experience using Adobe Creative Cloud suite of software
- Familiarity with Associated Press (AP) Stylebook
- Attention to detail and the ability to meet deadlines
