What are the responsibilities and job description for the Motor Equipment Operator II position at City of Virginia Beach?
The City of Virginia Beach is hiring a Motor Equipment Operator II for our Beach Operations division.
Duties include, but not limited to trash collection, clean up litter and debris on beaches, Boardwalk, Atlantic Avenue, as well as sand removal, grading, trimming/weed eating; maintaining sand fences/split rails in public accesses; set up and take down for Special Events; some night hours are required during Special Events; removal of dead sea life from beaches and supervising contractual employees when required. Must realize the importance of having good customer service skills when dealing with the tourist industry/citizen complaints.
Individual will operate one or more types of motorized/automotive equipment, such as various power tools, Four-wheel Drive Beach Truck, Packer Truck, Mad Vacuum, Sweeper, Skid Steer, Tractor and Front-End Loader.
Work schedule will be seven days a week from April 1st to November 1st, and hours vary to meet Resort demands.
Work Schedule:
- 5:30 am to 2:00 pm Monday-Friday - off season
- 5:30 am to 2:00 pm - 7 days a week (April 1st to November 1st)
Must possess a Class B Commercial Driver’s License for VA or NC.
Position is ALPHA I and is required to work during all inclement weather (snow, flooding, hurricanes, etc.).
CDL Hiring Bonus - Newly hired employees with a valid Class A or B CDL will be eligible for a $4,000 hiring bonus paid in three increments during the first year of employment:
- $1,000 with first paycheck
- $1,000 first pay period following six-month interim eval (with “meets expectation” performance rating)
- $2,000 at conclusion of probationary period (with “meets expectation” performance rating)
