What are the responsibilities and job description for the Pretrial Probation Officer I position at City of Virginia Beach?
The City of Virginia Beach Department of Human Services is seeking to hire two part-time Pretrial Probation Officers with Human Services/Criminal Justice experience working with justice involved individuals and experience with mental health and substance use disorders for the Community Corrections and Pretrial Services program.
- Conduct thorough interviews of incarcerated defendants eligible for pretrial in the jail or virtual setting based on training and provided guidance documents.
- Communicate professionally with people from diverse socioeconomic and cultural backgrounds.
- Prepare accurate risk assessments per DCJS policy.
- Conduct detailed and complete investigations using a variety of sources to obtain accurate information for reports.
- Verify information provided by client to assist judicial officials in making well-informed bail decisions.
- Prepare timely Court reports and present appropriate bail recommendations to judicial officers consistent with DCJS and CCP Policy.
- Provide testimony in Court as required.
- Conduct and interpret criminal history/background checks via NCIC/VCIN and Supreme Court database systems.
- Maintain organization integrity by keeping defendant information confidential per DCJS and HIPPA guidelines.
- Establish and maintain paper and electronic records as required by the DCJS, DHS, and Community Corrections policies.
