What are the responsibilities and job description for the Pretrial Probation Technician position at City of Virginia Beach?
The City of Virginia Beach Department of Human Services is seeking to hire two Pretrial Probation Technicians with human services or criminal justice experience to join the Community Corrections and Pretrial Services division!
Specific duties include, but are not limited to:
- The primary responsibility of this position is to perform observed drug screens on female and male pretrial and probation clients.
- Assist with data entry in the Pretrial Community Corrections case management system and ensure the accurate timely flow of all case information and correspondence.
- Assist supervision staff in the case management functions related to pretrial and probation duties.
- Assist with supervising defendants and offenders in accordance with standards of the Department of Criminal Justice Services (DCJS), Department of Human Services (DHS), and the conditions of supervision.
- Maintain record and reports as required by the Department of Criminal Justice Services and Department of Human Services.
- Run and interpret Criminal History reports using the NCIC/VCIN system.
- Conduct, subject to court approval, drug and alcohol screenings, or tests at investigation pursuant to subsection B of § 19.2-123 or following release to supervision and conduct or facilitate the preparation of screenings or assessments or both pursuant to state approved protocols.
- Review & enter drug test results in the electronic case management system.
- Responsible for the management, storage, and shipping of specimens, as well as maintaining an inventory of drug testing supplies.
- Document and address adulterations and obtain warrants as needed.
- Follow protocols should a client attempt to adulterate a drug test.
- Develop and maintain proficiency in the use of management of our online drug testing system.
- Provide staff training/ guidance on our agency drug testing practices and procedures.
- Comply with the duties and responsibilities of a local pretrial services officer (§19.2-152.4:3) and a local probation officer (§9.1-176.1).
- Testify in Court as needed.
