What are the responsibilities and job description for the MAINTENANCE SERVICE WORKER position at City of Visalia?
THE DIVISION
The City of Visalia Neighborhood Preservation Division is part of the Planning and Preservation Department. The Division is comprised of 7 full time Code Enforcement Officers, 1 full time Administrative Technician, 2 part-time Code Enforcement Technicians and 5 part time Graffiti Maintenance Workers.
The position of Maintenance Service Worker works under general supervision of the Neighborhood Preservation Manager and is responsible for performing pickup of solid waste and ensuring that the City’s right of ways remain clear of debris. In addition, this position will be tasked with reporting areas of blight within the City so that it can be addressed as well as reporting suspected illegal dumping violators.
The ideal candidate will be a self-starter, who is service oriented with the ability to efficiently manage and complete tasks. The incumbent should have experience in the use of various equipment including the towing and use of dump trucks. Candidates must have strong communication skills as they will be interacting with various city staff. In addition, the ideal candidate will be required to maintain various records and logs and will be organized, detail oriented, and have experience with office equipment including computers and software programs.
EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION:
Any combination equivalent to experience and education that could likely provide the required knowledge, skill and abilities is qualifying.
- Previous construction and maintenance experience.
- Possession of a valid California Driver's License by time of appointment.
PHYSICAL STANDARDS:
Positions in this class require moderate to heavy physical work with prolonged standing, walking, bending, stooping, climbing, lifting and carrying loads weighing between 50 to 95 pounds. Positions may also involve outside work, resulting in exposure to the weather.
