THE DIVISION
The City of Visalia's Street Maintenance division is part of the Public Works Department. The division is responsible for maintaining approximately 525 miles of streets within the City’s 40-square mile jurisdiction. Maintaining the streets is done with several different procedures, including thin skin patches, minor overlays, and pothole patching.
The ideal candidate will be knowledgeable in street construction methods, techniques, materials, terminology, and most importantly the safety practices necessary to meet the requirements of this position. The ideal candidate must be able to perform heavy physical labor, operate heavy duty truck/trailer combos, effectively communicate both written and orally, and follow both written and oral direction.
EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION
Any combination equivalent to experience and education that could likely provide the required knowledge, skill and ability is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge, skill and ability would be:

THE POSITION
This position involves a variety of duties related to street maintenance and repair such as raking or shoveling asphalt and other related materials, patching potholes, and operating power tools and other equipment. The role also includes concrete work such as repairing and removing curbs, gutters, and sidewalks, as well as performing storm drain maintenance and repair. The Senior Street Maintenance Worker is expected to operate moderate to heavy construction equipment, including front-end loaders, asphalt rollers, and concrete saws, and may lead a small crew in fulfilling work orders. Responsibilities also include setting up job sites while adhering to safety protocols, responding to emergency and after-hours calls, constructing wooden traffic safety barricades, and assisting in the training and evaluation of less-experienced personnel. Record-keeping and operating power-driven tools and dump trucks are also part of the job.

Street Maintenance Worker:
- One year experience performing roadway construction and maintenance activities.
- Possession of or ability to obtain a valid California driver's license by time of appointment.
- Possession of a valid Class A California Driver's License by time of appointment is desired.
- Two (2) years of experience performing duties comparable to those of a Street Maintenance Worker in the City of Visalia.
- Specialized training in street sweeping and street maintenance and repair.
- Possession of or ability to obtain a valid California Driver's License, Class A, by time of appointment. Tanker endorsement must be obtained within three (3) months of hire.

Salary : $48,792 - $74,844
