Position
Bus Driver - Senior Center
Senior Center drivers are under the direction of the Recreation Leader IV and Program Manager. Bus driver responsibilities may include transporting of seniors to and from the Senior Center for lunch or activities; transporting of seniors on shopping trips or medical appointments; transporting of groups of seniors on Culture Caravan excursions.Examples of Essential Functions
- Checks bus at the top of each shift for proper safety and upkeep regulations.
- Transports patrons from the parking lot to the front entrance of the theatre.
- Greets all patrons in a professional and courteous manner.
- Oversees the safety of patrons entering and exiting the bus.
- Drives patrons who exit early throughout the entire performance.
- Transports patrons from theatre entrance to the parking after the performance is over.
- Assists patrons and performs other related duties as needed.
Bus Driver - Senior Center: Essential functions indicated above plus:
- Transports seniors to and from home destination
- Enforces and explains Senior Center Rules and Policies
Minimum Qualifications
Any combination of training and experience which demonstrates possession of the knowledge and abilities stated above and the ability to perform the duties of the position is qualifying.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Graduation from high school, GED, or equivalent is required.
LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS:
Must have a California Class B driver’s license with passenger endorsement and a satisfactory driving record. A California Class C license may be considered for some assignments using Class C vehicles.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Ability to follow oral and written instructions; work cooperatively with the public and employees, in an enthusiastic and constructive manner; interact in a calm, pleasant, and constructive manner; engage in physical activity related to slight maintenance of the vehicle; maintain personal cleanliness and hygiene; drive a 20-passenger bus and practice safe driving techniques, following traffic laws, and uphold slight vehicle maintenance.
Other Information
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND OTHER WORKING CONDITIONS:
Daily lift and carry objects weighing up to 20 pounds without mechanical assistance.
Must be able to work a flexible schedule including weekends, evenings, and holidays, dependent on season program needs. Must be available from April until September, as scheduled, with no vacation leave. Persons hired must wear the standard required apparel as prescribed by the Recreation and Community Services Department.
Senior Center operations occur year-round, with schedules generally falling M-F between the hours of 8am-5pm. Some evening and/or weekend hours may be scheduled for event or trip transportation.
Gloria McClellan Senior Center is a program of the City of Vista’s Recreation and Community Services Department - Senior Services Division.
All those hired will become temporary, part-time employees of the City of Vista.
SELECTION PROCESS:
All properly completed applications will be reviewed, and the most qualified candidates will be invited to continue in the selection process. A pre-employment drug test and live scan fingerprint (background check), paid by the city, will be required.

WORKERS' COMPENSATION
The City provides Workers' Compensation Insurance to all employees.
RETIREMENT CONTRIBUTION
Employee is required to contribute 7.5% of gross earnings to the MissionSquare Retirement Plan, which is offered in lieu of Social Security, OR Current CalPERS members will be required to contribute the full employee contribution of 8%.
