Salary : See Position DescriptionLocation : Waco, TXJob Type : Full TimeJob Number : 2025-01040Department : PARKS & RECREATIONDivision : OperationsOpening Date : 02 / 21 / 2025 SummaryMinimum Starting : $16.65 per hour - Depending on QualificationsJob SummaryUnder basic supervision, performs unskilled and semiskilled general labor work in cleaning and maintenance of City parks and grounds; cleans and maintains tools and equipment.Minimum QualificationsRequired : HS Diploma or GED2 years of experience in landscaping / grounds keeping or equipment workValid Driver's LicenseEssential FunctionsPerforms unskilled and semiskilled manual labor tasks to maintain safe and attractive park system; maintains park facilities and grounds and follows all safety rules and regulations to minimize risk of accidents; duties may vary according to job assignment.Operates light and mechanized equipment and performs cleaning and maintenance tasks, including weed control, mowing, planting and watering; cleans up trash and debris and cleans facilities; prunes and trims trees and shrubs; assists with irrigation systems; loads and hauls materials.Inspects light equipment and tools for proper operating condition; repairs and adjusts equipment and performs maintenance and preventive maintenance as needed.Enforces rules and regulations; assists with training new staff; reports unsafe acts, conditions, accidents and injuries; performs emergency cleaning and maintenance work as directed.

• Installs, repairs, and maintains the irrigation sprinkler systems to ensure effective watering of park areas, and other City property. Performs routine technical and preventive maintenance on sprinkler systems such as checking systems, replacing / repairing components, and making controller adjustments to ensure system is maintained in proper operating condition; inspects and tests systems to identify and resolve problems.Performs a variety of activities such as digging trenches, operating trencher, repairing valves, and modifying the controller to assist with irrigation system maintenance.Checks and adjusts system water pressure as necessary.Adheres to safety regulations and standards.May be required to respond afterhours, including holidays and weekends, in the event of a departmental or City-wide emergency.The City of Waco offers a complete benefits package for eligible employees including; health, dental, vision, Employee Assistance Program (EAP), Flexible Spending Accounts, life insurance, long term and short term disability, retirement, deferred compensation plans, holidays, vacation, sick leave, credit union and savings bonds.
