CIVIL SERVICE TEST ANNOUNCEMENT for POLICE PATROL OFFICER
The City of Wadsworth is announcing a virtual (on-line) civil service examination for the position(s) of Police Patrol Officer; the need to fill multiple vacancies in this classification is a possibility. More information about the City of Wadsworth and the examination are listed below.
Minimum Qualifications for Employment:
A qualified applicant must have reached the age of twenty-one (21) at the time of his/her original appointment as a Police Officer. An applicant must be appointed to a Patrol Officer position prior to reaching the age of forty (40). Please note that the appointment process may take several months from the date of the exam to the final date of appointment to the position.
An applicant shall meet or possess all of the following qualifications to be eligible for an appointment:
1. Citizen of the United States;
2. High school diploma or equivalent;
3. Valid motor vehicle operator’s license;
4. A driving record that qualifies the candidate to be insurable and to remain insurable under the city’s vehicle insurance policy as deemed by the City;
5. Favorable employment history; and
6. Criminal record free of felony convictions or other crimes of aggression or violence.
Compensation and Benefits:
The City offers excellent benefits to include generous accrued leave (e.g., sick, vacation, holiday), uniform allowance, comprehensive health insurance including medical, prescription, dental and vision coverage and participation in the Ohio Police and Fire Pension Fund (OP & F).
The wage rate for this position is determined by the collective bargaining agreement between the City of Wadsworth and the Ohio Patrolmen’s Benevolent Association.
The current hourly rate for new hires with OPOTA Certification in calendar year 2024 is $32.37. A lower rate exists for new hires who must attend a Police Academy and achieve their OPOTA Certification. Typically, there will be a wage increase following the successful completion of a one (1) year probationary period. The rate of pay following the probationary period and any other potential wage adjustments are subject to the provisions of the collective bargaining agreement.
