The City of Waelder is currently accepting applications for Two (2) Full-time Certified Peace Officers.
The Waelder Police Department, an equal opportunity employer, is seeking professional qualified applicants who are pro-active and have a sense of duty, and serve the needs of the community. Officers work under the direction of the Chief of Police. Officers will be responsible for enforcing state and municipal laws and city ordinances in order to ensure the safety of the citizens and businesses in the City of Waelder.
Benefits:
· Starting hourly rate of $25.00 (no experience); $26.00 (with experience).
· Competitive certification incentive pay for TCOLE Intermediate ($25.00 per month), Advanced ($50.00 per month), and Master ($75.00 per month), after six month probationary period.
· Training reimbursements on mandated and assignment-specific courses.
· This position requires working 10 to 12 hour shifts as needed, with every other Saturday and Sunday off.
· Eleven (11) paid holidays a year. Double credit for every holiday shift worked.

Overview
The Police Officer plays a crucial role in maintaining public safety and enforcing laws within the community. Duties
- Patrol assigned areas to deter and detect criminal activity.
- Conduct surveillance operations as needed to gather evidence and monitor suspicious behavior.
- Respond promptly to emergency calls and incidents, providing assistance as required.
- Enforce laws and regulations, including immigration law, ensuring compliance within the community.
- Prepare detailed reports on incidents, arrests, and investigations for legal documentation.
- Utilize conflict management skills to de-escalate situations and ensure public safety.
- Participate in community outreach programs to build relationships with residents and promote public safety awareness.
- Maintain proficiency in driving police vehicles under various conditions while adhering to traffic laws.
Requirements
- Must have a minimum of a Basic Peace Officer License in good standing with TCOLE for certified applicants.
- Applicants must have a valid Texas Driver's License or be able to obtain a Texas Driver's License prior to employment.
- Applicant must submit a Personal History Statement and information release form.
- Applicant must not have been convicted, plead guilty, court-ordered probation, or deferred adjudication for a Class A Misdemeanor or Felony.
- Applicant must not have been convicted, plead guilty, court-ordered probation, or deferred adjudication within the past 10 years for a Class B Misdemeanor.
- Applicants can reside a reasonable distance outside the city limits of Waelder.
- Applicant must have a high school diploma or GED
- The applicant must be a US citizen.
- Applicant must have a good driving record.
- Applicant must not have a military court-martial or dishonorable discharge.
