Job Overview:
This position is in charge of all administration and works directly under the Mayor.
The City of Walton is seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented individual to serve as City Clerk. This position is responsible for a variety of administrative, financial, and record-keeping duties to ensure smooth municipal operations. The City Clerk will handle utility billing, oversee municipal court functions, manage ordinance and records retention, assist with city council and board meetings, and provide support for maintenance projects as needed.
Key Responsibilities:
- Utility Billing: Manage utility accounts, process payments, and respond to customer inquiries.
- Municipal Court Administration: Maintain court records, schedule hearings, process fines, and coordinate with the municipal judge.
- Ordinance & Records Retention: Ensure all city records are properly maintained and retained per state regulations; manage ordinances and resolutions.
- Council & Board Meetings: Prepare agendas, attend meetings, record and transcribe minutes, and distribute information to council members.
- City Representation: Attend various board meetings and represent the city in a professional manner.
- Administrative Support: Assist the Mayor, City Council, and other city staff with administrative tasks as needed.
- Maintenance Assistance: Provide support with maintenance projects, including coordinating with public works staff and assisting with tasks as necessary. Work on water, sewer, and gas utilities, and assist the City Maintenance Supervisor as needed.
Qualifications:
- This position requires the candidate to be bonded, pass a background check, and undergo a drug test.
- High school diploma or equivalent (Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree preferred).
- Experience in municipal government, bookkeeping, or administrative roles preferred.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and database management.
- Strong organizational, communication, and customer service skills.
- Ability to handle confidential information with integrity.
- Must be able to attend evening meetings as required.
