Position Overview:
The Equipment Operator is responsible for operating various trucks and heavy equipment to maintain city streets and rights-of-way. This role involves construction, repair, and maintenance tasks to ensure public safety and infrastructure upkeep.
Key Responsibilities:
- Operate a variety of equipment, including dump trucks, garbage trucks, mowers, snowplows, street sweepers, graders, loaders, bobcats, bulldozers, salt spreaders, cement mixers, and other specialized tools.
- Perform construction, maintenance, and repair work on city streets, alleys, sidewalks, and rights-of-way, including sewer and storm system repairs, which may involve confined space entry (permitted/non-permitted).
- Clear and maintain city streets, public property, and rights-of-way by hauling and spreading road materials, removing debris, trimming vegetation, and managing snow and ice removal operations.
- Assist in street and alley repairs, including loading/unloading trucks, shoveling and spreading road patching materials, and sealing cracks.
- Conduct routine maintenance on vehicles and equipment, including cleaning, checking fluid levels, lubricating parts, and inspecting safety systems such as brakes, lights, and gauges.
- Assist with traffic control and flagging at work sites as needed.
- Be available for emergency response, including snow removal, and work occasional extended, evening, or weekend hours.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Working Conditions:
- Work is primarily outdoors in all weather conditions, including extreme heat, cold, rain, and snow.
- Requires frequent physical activity, including lifting, carrying, bending, kneeling, climbing, and operating heavy equipment.
- Exposure to loud noise, dust, dirt, fumes, and hazardous materials.
- May involve working in confined spaces or high-traffic areas.
- Requires availability for emergency response, including 24-hour on-call duty during inclement weather or other urgent situations.
Qualifications:
- Experience operating heavy equipment and trucks in a construction or public works setting preferred.
- Class B CDL preferred.
- Ability to perform physical labor in varying weather conditions.
- Willingness to be on-call for emergencies and work flexible hours as needed.
- Knowledge of equipment maintenance and basic repair techniques is a plus.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $20.00 - $22.00 per hour
