SummaryPerforms a variety of housekeeping and cleaning duties in various City buildings and office settings. Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesNOTE: This job description is not intended to be all-inclusive. Employees may perform other related duties as needed to meet the needs of the organization. Cleans windows and glass doors; dusts offices, blinds, countertops and other hard surface areas.Vacuums carpeted areas, including stairs, sweeps and mops hard-surface floors, including non-carpeted stairs.Gathers and disposes of office trash.Sweeps sidewalks, cleans kitchen and disposes of trash.Notifies supervisor when supplies are low and need restocking.Strips, waxes and buffs floors; shampoos carpets.Cleans water fountains and water dispensers.Cleans floors, walls, lavatories, fixtures, toilets, etc.; refills bathroom supplies.Cleans facilities after activities.Performs minor maintenance repair including plumbing, electrical wiring, window panes, lights, furniture, etc.Sets up and breaks down meeting rooms.Performs other duties as assigned. Required Education and/or ExperienceHigh school diploma or general education degree (GED) and one or more years related experience and/or training. Special RequirementsValid N.C. driver's license and acceptable driving record Knowledge, Skills, and AbilitiesGeneral knowledge of building cleaning practices, supplies and equipment and ability to use them economically and efficientlyKnowledge of department activitiesAbility to understand oral and written directionsAbility to read and write; physical ability to perform heavy manual workAbility to work independentlyAbility to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates and the general public Physical RequirementsWork in this class is defined as medium work requiring physical exertion of in excess of 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or in excess of 20 pounds of frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Employee has to perform physical activities such as climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, walking, standing, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, feeling talking, and hearing. Employee must have the stamina to work for extended periods. Employee must have the visual acuity to operate equipment and tools, read instructions, determine the neatness and thoroughness of work performed or needs to be performed as well as recognize and apply safety standards of work performed. Employee must have the ability to speak and communicate with others as well as hear spoken words for instructions or answer questions. Working ConditionsEmployee is subject to inside and outside environmental conditions including extreme temperatures and conditions, as well as loud noise levels. Employees potential exposure to chemicals as well as atmospheric conditions including fumes, odors, dusts, dirt, gases, atmospheric conditions, oils or poor ventilation. Employee may work in close quarters, crawl space, small enclosures, and other areas which could cause claustrophobia. Employees are to use and/or wear protective gear as required.
