What are the responsibilities and job description for the Property Room Technician position at City of Watauga?
Under general supervision, maintains and secures all property and evidence for law enforcement cases and investigations.
- Receives and data enters all property that detectives have left in lockers from the previous night or weekend.
- Ensures all property has been correctly marked with the appropriate numbers and seals have been initialed and dated.
- Files cases on an automated system for the detectives.
- Locates property to dispose on a weekly basis; ensures all property is secured.
- Delivers and picks up property from the detectives.
- Organizes property in the storage locations.
- Assists with Sex Offender registration as requested.
- Participates in annual audits.
- Performs other job-related duties consistent with assigned division responsibilities.
- May perform other assignments and handle special projects as required.
SCOPE OF SUPERVISION
- Works under general supervision of the Police Sergeant.
Associate degree, preferred. High School diploma or equivalent; AND two (2) years of law enforcement staff support experience; OR an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
LICENSE AND CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
- Texas Association of Property and Evidence Inventory Technician certification.
- Possession of a valid Texas driver’s license.
- City organization, operations, policies and procedures.
- Evidence handling policies, procedures and methods.
- Sex Offender registration requirements.
- Principles and practices of effective customer service.
- Applicable policies, procedures and regulations covering specific areas of assignment.
- Business and personal computers, and spreadsheet software applications.
- Principles of record keeping, records retention, records management, and file maintenance.
- Handling situations requiring diplomacy, fairness, firmness and sound judgment.
- Performing the analysis of information with great attention to detail.
- Performing data entry with extreme accuracy.
- Maintaining accurate records.
- Understanding and applying relevant policies and procedures.
- Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with supervisors, co-workers, external law enforcement agencies, vendors and the general public.
- Operating a personal computer and software programs, and data entering information into a computer system with speed and accuracy.
- Communicating effectively both verbally and in writing.
- Maintaining confidentiality.
Work is performed in an office work environment. May be exposed to hazardous chemicals. May be required to lift and carry items weighing up to 25 pounds. May be required to use a step stool.
