What are the responsibilities and job description for the Facilities Maintenance Superintendent position at City of Watertown, SD?
POSITION SUMMARY
This position is responsible for the duties that include, but are not limited to the supervision of staff or contractors responsible for various maintenance operations, oversight of maintenance service contracts, equipment replacement, management of janitorial service contracts, development of project estimates, final inspections on projects, and the evaluation of the work of assigned staff and contractors. The Project and Facility Manager must possess good organizational and communication skills, and be able to collaborate effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Possess any combination of training, education and experience in the areas of facility management; such as the supervision of construction, renovation, operation and maintenance of facilities.
- Experience in all phases of management and maintenance staff; including construction management, bidding requirements, estimating, specification writing, budgeting, and financial management is preferred.
- A valid South Dakota Driver’s License with acceptable driving record.
- Any employee whose work includes critical services or stand-by shall be required to reside within 15 miles of the city center defined as the Regional Airport terminal.
- Possess or obtain Class B CDL within 6 months of hire.
- Competence in written and/or oral interviews.
- Computer experience is helpful. This position requires that you have competence in Microsoft Office Suite; specifically Microsoft Office and Excel.
- Other such examination as deemed appropriate and necessary by the City of Watertown.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree or an Associate’s degree in construction management, engineering technology or similar degree is required.
- Two years of progressively responsible experience in construction methods, electrical, plumbing, HVAC and general facility maintenance preferred.
- A combination of education, training and experience may be considered in lieu of degree requirement.
- General knowledge of construction and engineering principles, practices, techniques, codes, tools and equipment used in maintenance and construction tasks in working offices, including management of and inspection of work desired.
