What are the responsibilities and job description for the Pool Manager (Temporary/Hourly) position at City of Watsonville?
We are hiring two pool managers for our 2025 Summer Aquatic Season.
These positions are perfect for aquatic professionals who have experience working as lifeguards and swim instructors looking for an opportunity in a leadership role.
The first position will oversee the 2025 Summer Aquatic Program. This position will provide a safe and welcoming experience by providing support to lifeguards, swim instructors, and participants. This position will also lead the Aquatic Safety Team with duties to prevent, recognize and respond to aquatic emergencies. Duties also include providing care for breathing emergencies, cardiac emergencies, and sudden illness.
The second position will lead and implement our new Junior Lifeguard Program.
Important candidate characteristics for these 2 positions include but are not limited to: proficient swimmer, positive, mature, reliable, professional, courteous, and consistent. Ability to effectively communicate and present information. Ability to apply basic mathematical concepts. Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
Under supervision, plan, coordinate, direct and promote programs and activities in the City Summer Aquatic Program; train, supervise and evaluate part-time employees and volunteers participating in aquatics programs; in the shortage of staff, perform lifeguard and related duties; in the shortage of staff, provide swimming instruction; and perform other duties as required.
Must possess current American Red Cross Lifeguard Training (LGT) Certification (preferred); current American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification, current Water Safety Instruction (WSI) Certificate; current First Aid and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Certificates, and valid Class C CA driver’s license, including a safe driving record.

Prior to appointment to the position of Pool Manager, a medical examination and Department of Justice Livescan fingerprinting will be required.
