This position is responsible for performing interior and exterior inspections of residential and commercial properties for compliance with all applicable City, State and Federal building codes, ordinances and statutes related to the use, occupancy and maintenance of properties within the City of Waukesha.
Schedule : Monday - Friday, 8 : 00-4 : 30 (with flexibility)
Starting salary : $61,862.60 - $74,306.26

- Conducts inspections of properties to check and confirm compliance with health and safety codes, ordinances and statutes.
- Conducts inspections in response to citizen complaints, aldermanic requests or information provided by other inspectors.
- Conducts inspections for compliance with the City ordinances including, public nuisance, zoning, public health and welfare, building, signs, property maintenance, and all local and adopted building codes.
- Enforces code provisions by preparing and processing contact letters, orders to correct conditions and issuance of citations; charges reinspection fees as warranted.
- Initiates contact with tenants, landlords and property owners regarding code violations, maintenance issues and other problems associated with inspection duties.
- Tracks active code enforcement cases and enters inspection results with narrative into the computer system.
- Inspects rooming houses to ensure code and license compliance.
- Reviews certificate of occupancy for each establishment with a liquor license to ensure code compliance.
- Assists other inspectors as needed and as certification allows.
- Maintains a thorough knowledge of modern inspection methods and procedures.
- Collects and manages evidence related to enforcement actions.
- Testifies in court as necessary regarding enforcement actions.
- Inspects properties for compliance with the City Zoning Ordinance, City Planning requirements and Plan Commission requirements as it relates to Certificate of Occupancy.
- Creates zoning compliance letters as requested.
- Conducts permit and plan reviews as assigned.
- Provides effective and efficient customer service and promotes and maintains responsive community relations.
Graduation from high school plus at least 2 years of additional technical training from a college, university or technical school with courses in building construction, electrical, plumbing or related areas; and at least 3 years of experience in the building trades, conducting UDC building inspections, or performing property maintenance inspections; or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the following knowledge, ability and skills :
