What are the responsibilities and job description for the Youth Development Leader position at City of Waukesha?
- Youth Development LeaderLeaders are responsible for planning and leading a successful and engaging program at the site assigned.
Compensation: $18.00 per hour, depending on experience and qualifications
Dates/Times:- 7:30 am - 5:30 pm or 12:00 - 5:00 pm, depending on site
- Monday - Friday, June -August
- Last day of school is typically second week of June.
- NOTE: There may be an opportunity to work for the Summer Playgrounds program upon conclusion of the Afterschool Program
Specific Job Responsibilities:
- Participate in pre-season staff orientation/training program.
- Organize and lead playground activities are park site. Leaders are expected to be actively involved with all participants that wish to participate.
- Develop and implement curriculum that provides fun, creative and safe programs for participants.
- Prevent injuries by minimizing or eliminating hazardous situations or behaviors.
- Enforce rules and regulations of program.
- Leaders are responsible for the program facility and all equipment i.e., balls, jump ropes, bats, etc. belonging to WPRF.
- Implement special events and themed activities at playground site.
- Complete all reports in a timely fashion, i.e., daily attendance, permission slips, requisition forms and time cards.
- Provide first aid as needed and complete appropriate accident report.
- Emphasize and model good sportsmanship in sports, games, and other activities.
- Attend weekly staff meetings.
- Dress appropriately when on duty. All personnel are required to wear playground staff shirt while working.
- Supervise Leaders in Training and implement Leaders in Training Program.
- Follow all City of Waukesha employee work rules.
- Return all keys, paperwork and required equipment at the end of the program.
- Maintain exceptional communication with WPRF, co-leaders, Playground Coordinators, Recreation Programmer, and parents.
Qualifications:
- Must be a high school graduate
- Prior experience working with children desirable
- Proficiency in the following skills: Leadership, Decision-Making, Planning, Organization and Communication
- Ability to lead, plan, organize and implement program activities.
- Desire to work in a team environment with the ability to accomplish tasks with little direct supervision.
- Enthusiastic personality and willingness to adapt to unforeseen circumstances.
