Position Overview

Temporary positions are available in the Department of Public Works for the summer season (May through August) and the work schedule is approximately 40 hours per week (based on department needs and weather conditions.) Hours are typically 7:00am - 3:00pm, but may vary based on division. Pay is $16.39 per hour.
Positions are available in Street Operation, Engineering, Parks, Forestry, Landscaping, and Water. Please include what area(s) you are interested in when submitting your application.
This position is scheduled to close on 4/11/2025 but may be removed sooner once the hiring needs of the City are met.
Essential Functions
Responsibilities will vary based on division, but may include:
Forestry Division
- Maintain shrubs at municipal buildings
- Assist Arborists with Forestry operations
- Perform park and athletic field maintenance
- Assists with necessary field inspection for the construction of public works projects in the City as assigned.
- Documents and maintains construction inspection records for the construction and measurement of public works projects.
- Provides assistance with data entry for stormwater watershed modeling using PCSWMM.
- Assists Engineering staff in quantity calculations for public works projects in the City as assigned.
- Provides photo documentation of the condition of City infrastructure assets.
- Updates and maintains City infrastructure asset records and quantities.
- Assist street crews with concrete and asphalt roadway maintenance
- Yard waste collection, which includes an extra $2.00/hour stipend
- Public receptacle garbage and recycling collection
- Refuse cart repair
- Indoor facility maintenance
- Hydrant painting and inspection
- Valve operations and curb stop work
- Assist maintenance staff as needed with landscaping and cleaning of cold storage area
Minimum Requirements
- A minimum of 18 years of age
- A valid driver's license
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs
- Ability to perform manual labor outdoors in all weather conditions
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
Additional Information
Receives direction and supervision from the division superintendent, supervisor or others as directed by management.
