What are the responsibilities and job description for the Firefighter/Paramedic position at City of Webster Groves?
The Webster Groves Fire Department is a vibrant division within the City of talented Firefighters who serve our community with compassion and professionalism and share internally, the importance of comradery and care as one team.
The WGFD has 2 firehouses, 36-line personnel, an Assistant Fire Chief and a Fire Chief.
Responds to calls or reports of actual, possible, or potential fire occurrences, fire alarms, motor vehicle accidents, explosions, uncontained hazardous/volatile/chemical contamination, or other property or life-threatening emergency conditions to suppress, control, remove, contain, or otherwise mitigate the situation; searches for and rescues victims; performs or supports the performance of various types of technical rescue operations.
Responds to all fire and emergency medical calls and renders immediate, effective and appropriate medical treatment in accordance with the department's medical protocols.
Provides emergency and non-emergency incident responses such as public assistance and other service calls which include assistance to physically impaired, evaluation and minor repairs to fire and smoke detection equipment, assistance with pest removal.
Maintains patient information in accordance with the City’s privacy policies, procedures, and practices, as required by federal and state law, and in accordance with general principles of professionalism as a health care provider.
Drives and operates a fire apparatus in emergency situations, if trained.
Cleans, repairs and maintains station quarters and grounds.
Performs routine inspection, preventive maintenance, and cleaning on fire apparatus to ensure emergency readiness.
Cleans and maintains ambulance, medical supplies, drugs and medical equipment in accordance with guidelines and procedures.
Participates in drills and training sessions, or activities essential to maintaining a constant state of readiness and competency for all types of potential incidents.
Conducts public education training programs such as extinguisher usage, helmet and seatbelt usage, senior and child home safety concerns, child safety seat installation, general health and wellness issues and community awareness activities.
Assists with fire cause determination activities.
Performs data entry and incident reports as assigned.
Conducts site visits to commercial and multiple dwelling occupancies within the City to maintain familiarity, evaluate potential code compliance and safety concerns, and assist the Fire Department with updating pre-fire planning information.
Inspects and tests fire hydrants and records flow information for Fire Department use.
Other duties as assigned.
- Graduate of the Greater St. Louis County Fire Academy, certified as Firefighter I and II. Other schools/counties/cities cannot be considered.
- Licensed Paramedic (EMT-P) in the State of Missouri.
- Valid driver’s license required, Emergency Vehicle Driver’s certification preferred.
- Pre-hospital Trauma Life Support (PHTLS), or International Trauma Life Support (ITLS).
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
- Must possess a valid Candidates Physical Ability Test (CPAT) certificate, issued within the past twelve (12) months at time of job offer to continue with pre-employment testing.
