Job Announcement:
The City of Webster's City Secretary Department is accepting applications for the position of Communications Specialist. The ideal candidate is enthusiastic and skilled at developing, disseminating, and monitoring marketing and public information messages across a variety of channels. This position requires outstanding communication skills in print, online, and via social media. The Communications Specialist develops and manages content generation for City publications and digital messaging platforms. Communications responsibilities include providing accurate, relevant, and timely information to the public on behalf of the city and producing content and layouts for the City's publications. Social media responsibility includes monitoring communication channels and responding appropriately. This position is required to post messages outside of standard business hours as needed and during emergencies. The Communications Specialist serves as a liaison with media contacts. Under the direction of the City Secretary, this position provides communication support to the City Manager, Mayor, and City Council, and supports communication projects across multiple City departments.
Minimum Qualifications:
- A bachelor's degree from an accredited university in communications, public relations, or a related field.
- Three (3) or more years of experience in communications, public relations, media, or a related role.
- Two (2) years or more of experience generating compelling layouts and graphic designs on multiple platforms.
- Expertise with Adobe Sound and Creative suites, Canva, Photoshop, InDesign, Microsoft Office programs, videography and photography hardware and software.
Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities:
Position requires advanced writing and communication skills, online content generation and design proficiency, and graphic arts creativity and acumen. Position also requires strong public relations skills with a high degree of accuracy and accountability to ensure delivery of quality content. Strong photography and videography skills are required.
Special Requirements:
This is an Essential Services Position that is required to provide communication services in the course and scope of employment for the benefit of the public during emergency situations that threaten the safety of Webster's citizens, according to the City's Emergency Services Guidelines. Federal Emergency Management Agency [FEMA] training may be required.
Salary and Benefits Include:
- Starting Salary Range: $25.835 - $31.479 per hour, depending on experience and qualifications
