Position SummaryUnder supervision of the Lake Supervisor and Public Works Operations Manager this position is generally routine manual labor involving the care and maintenance of Wellington Lake. Essential Functions
Education/Licenses: A high school diploma or G.E.D. is preferred. Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school, and some knowledge and experience in operation and care of motorized equipment and grounds care. Must have a valid Kansas Driver's License and obtain, within one (1) year of employment, and maintain a valid Kansas Commercial Driver's License.
Technical Skills: The ability to operate vehicles, mowers and other equipment safely and efficiently in the maintenance and upkeep of City facilities. Must be able to learn to service and maintain equipment and perform some repair tasks. Ability to learn and communicate effectively the rules, regulations and fee structures applicable for certain Lake activities and/or facilities. Ability to assist in construction, painting, and cleaning facilities; knowledgeable about safety requirements and hazards of the job.
Problem Solving: Employee must be able to effectively deal with a variety of service, maintenance and information problems from customers and users of the Lake facilities.
Decision-Making: The employee makes decisions about performing daily duties in the most efficient manner under direct supervision.
Supervision: This position is subject to frequent supervision from either the Lake Supervisor or PW Operations Manager. This position may assist in the oversight of seasonal employees.
Accountability: This position has some responsibility for collecting fees and the accountability for such cash receipts and permit books and licenses.
Personal Relations: Daily contact with the general public, co-workers and supervisor is probable.
Working Conditions: Indoor and outdoor work required in this position. Some hazardous working conditions may exist in this position relating to the operation of equipment, chemicals used, working in traffic and water, and in the variety of maintenance and repair tasks performed. Adverse weather conditions when performing outdoor work is a factor. Work hours generally 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. with some variation occasionally required and some overtime hours required.
Physical Requirements: The employee is frequently required to walk, climb, kneel, stoop, sit, communicate, reach, and manipulate objects, tools, or controls. The position requires mobility, manual dexterity and ability to operate a motorized vehicle. Ability to lift, carry and/or move an object up to one hundred (100) pounds occasionally, and/or up to fifty (50) pounds frequently, and/or twenty-five (25) pounds regularly.

- Works directly in maintenance activities such as mowing and trimming grasses, hedges, trees and shrubs;
- Performs spraying weeds and insects;
- Performs cleaning tasks and removes trash in the facility's public restrooms;
- Picks up trash and debris from Lake grounds, cleans fire pits;
- Performs lake patrol, selling of permits and licenses and provides information and/or assistance to park/lake patrons;
- Operates mowing equipment, pickup trucks, tractors, and other equipment in maintenance of the Lake;
- Performs maintenance and repairs on assigned equipment;
- Assists in constructing, painting, cleaning and repairing grounds, buildings and equipment;
- Assume role as storm spotter, sounds sirens as necessary to warn Lake patrons
- Assists other departments as needed;
- Performs related work as required.
