Construction Inspector Supervisor

Description

The City of Wentzville is seeking a dedicated and experienced Construction Inspection Supervisor to lead and oversee daily construction inspection activities.  This role is crucial in ensuring that all private and public infrastructure projects meet the City’s standards and comply with federal, state, and local regulations to protect public health and safety.

Responsibilities:

• Schedule, organize, and supervise daily construction inspections to guarantee projects are completed to City standards and regulatory requirements.
• Ensure all construction inspections are conducted in a safe, timely, consistent, respectful, and accurate manner.
• Lead, monitor, and supervise employees, providing active supervision, coaching, and mentoring to achieve performance and quality standards.
• Recommend employment actions, including hiring, promoting, disciplining, and terminating employees.
• Provide respectful, professional, and positive service in all interactions with co-workers, internal and external customers, community members, and the public.
• Maintain a positive and productive work environment, ensuring compliance with City, Department, and Division policies, procedures, goals, and objectives.
• Supervise employees to contribute to departmental and organizational goals by assigning, overseeing, and organizing work, leading day-to-day activities under general guidance and oversight.
• Promote on-the-job safety by enforcing proper equipment use, directing personnel to wear appropriate protective gear, correcting unsafe working conditions and activities, investigating on-the-job accidents or injuries, reporting incidents to supervisors, and following standard construction safety precautions.
• Manage the day-to-day activities of the team, establishing and delegating tasks as necessary, under the guidance and supervision of a manager.

Qualifications

Job Qualifications – Education, experience, and training that are required or desirable in order to effectively perform the job at the time of hire. An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience will be considered. Additional requirements and/or substitutions may be requested and require the approval of HR.

• An associate or bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field is required.
  • Additional experience in the field may be considered instead of a degree.
• Five years of experience in Civil Engineering, Public Works, Construction, or a similar work environment required. 
  • Additional job-related advanced degrees or certifications may be considered instead of experience.
• Prior supervisory experience is preferred.
• A valid driver’s license is required.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities – May be representative, but not all-inclusive, of those knowledge, skills, and abilities commonly associated with this position.

• Thorough understanding of public infrastructure for both construction and maintenance, including streets, sidewalks, storm sewers, sanitary sewers, and water distribution. 
• Proficient in infrastructure systems and engineering practices and principles.
• Proficiency in use of basic business software (e.g., word processing, spreadsheets, email, presentations), and basic knowledge of office equipment and machines required; proficiency in AutoCAD and/or ArcGIS software desired.
• Ability to read and understand blueprint and construction plans.
• Ability to communicate technical information in an effective, clear manner, both verbally and in writing.
• Ability to provide exceptional service to internal and external customers. 
• Ability to communicate effectively and professionally with supervisors, co-workers, and customers by telephone, in writing, and in person.
• Ability to effectively organize and prioritize routine, non-routine, and complex tasks to meet deadlines.
• Ability to concentrate on multiple tasks simultaneously and to follow through on processes from end-to-end. 
• Ability to anticipate and complete tasks based on defined processes and timelines. 
• Ability to work independently under little supervision and make responsible decisions.

Work Environment – Environmental or atmospheric conditions commonly associated with the performance of the duties of this job.
Indoor and outdoor work environment. 

• May be exposed to moderate noise levels.
• Occasionally exposed to varying, inclement weather, including extreme heat and cold.
• Occasionally required to work in hazardous traffic conditions.

Salary : $75,961 - $88,983
