The Engineering Supervisor is a critical leadership position responsible for the planning and design approval of all public infrastructure within the City of Wentzville. This role involves managing a team of engineering professionals, collaborating with internal and external stakeholders, and ensuring projects comply with all applicable codes and regulations. The ideal candidate will be a highly motivated and experienced engineer with a proven track record of successful project management and team leadership.
Essential Job Duties:
- Provide respectful, professional, and positive service in all interactions with co-workers, internal and external customers, community members, and the public.
- Foster a positive and productive work environment, ensuring compliance with City, Department, and Division policies, procedures, goals, and objectives.
- Serve as an integral member of the Engineering Department management team, advising the Assistant Director and Director on development and design-related matters.
- Supervise, mentor, coach, and lead the City’s engineering staff, including performance management, hiring, termination, disciplinary actions, and promotions.
- Support the City’s construction inspectors and project managers during the construction phase of engineering permits and capital improvement projects.
- Oversee the planning, coordination, and design approvals for private developments and public infrastructure projects.
- Ensure that private development is planned and designed to meet applicable codes and requirements.

Qualifications
Job Qualifications – Education, experience, and training that are required or desirable in order to effectively perform the job at the time of hire. An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience will be considered. Additional requirements and/or substitutions may be requested and require the approval of HR.
- A bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or a related field is required.
- Additional experience in the field may be considered in lieu of a degree.
- A minimum of 5 years of experience in Civil Engineering, Public Works, Construction, or a similar work environment is required.
- Additional job-related advanced degrees or certifications may be considered in lieu of experience.
- A valid driver’s license is required.
- Missouri Professional Engineer License, or the ability to obtain it within 12 months of employment, is required.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities – May be representative, but not all-inclusive, of those knowledge, skills, and abilities commonly associated with this position.
- Thorough understanding of public infrastructure for both design and construction of streets, sidewalks, traffic signals, storm sewers, sanitary sewers, and water distribution infrastructure.
- Knowledge of hydraulics, hydrology, water quality, wastewater treatment, and water resources.
- Working knowledge of the city’s policies, municipal code, engineering design criteria, standard specifications, and construction details.
- Up-to-date knowledge of industry design trends.
- Proficiency in use of basic business software (word processing, spreadsheets, email, presentations), software adopted by the City for daily functions (e.g., Paycom, MinuteTraq, and SmartGov), AutoCAD, Bluebeam, and ArcGIS software, as well as basic knowledge of office equipment and machines.
- Ability to lead, monitor, and supervise employees to achieve goals that contribute to individual and organizational success.
- Ability to make quality decisions that impact the team and direction of project work.
- Ability to plan and organize work, analyze and solve problems, and prepare and support comprehensive reporting.
- Ability to provide exceptional service to internal and external customers.
- Ability to manage and monitor division operations and services and implement procedural changes as needed to improve workflow and productivity.
