Description

Job Summary :

Under direct supervision, Camp Counselors provide care and guidance to a group of children, leading them in a variety of fun, educational, and engaging camp activities. Counselors work collaboratively with peers and supervisors to implement and instruct these activities, ensuring a safe and positive camp environment for all.

Essential Job Duties :

Provide respectful, professional, and positive service in all interactions with co-workers, internal and external customers, community members, and the public.
Maintain a positive and productive environment, ensuring compliance with the policies, procedures, goals, and objectives of the City / Organization, Department, and Division.
Lead and organize a group of 10-12 children in camp activities.
Ensure the safety of campers, staff, and the public by communicating and enforcing camp rules to campers and public park users.
Conduct frequent head counts to ensure all campers are safe and accounted for.
Plan daily activities for scheduled facilities and spaces.
Maintain effective communication with campers and their families.
Document camper incidents, accidents, and any disciplinary issues.
Assist with set-up and clean-up of camp activities and facilities.
Participate in staff training and meetings.

This is a part-time position, not to exceed an average of 29 hours per week.

Qualifications

Job Qualifications - Education, experience, and training that are required or desirable in order to effectively perform the job at the time of hire. An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience will be considered. Additional requirements and / or substitutions may be requested and require the approval of HR.

Prior relevant experience desired.

Minimum of 16 years of age is required.

CPR / AED and First Aid certifications are required.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities - May be representative, but not all-inclusive, of those knowledge, skills, and abilities commonly associated with this position.

Ability to develop a basic competency level in the area of operation.

Ability to follow standard operating procedures and systems to accomplish tasks.

Ability to provide exceptional service to internal and external customers. Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and personal services. This includes customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction.

Ability to communicate effectively and professionally with supervisors, co-workers, and customers by telephone, in writing, and in person.

Ability to use good judgment and think rationally in difficult or stressful situations.

Ability to develop goals and plans to prioritize, organize, and accomplish work, as well as concentrate on multiple tasks simultaneously.

Proficiency in the use of basic business software (word processing, spreadsheets, email, presentations) and basic office equipment.

Ability to work under direct supervision and collaboratively in a team environment.

Regular attendance is a necessary and essential job duty. Job requires being reliable, responsible and dependable.

Work Environment - Environmental or atmospheric conditions commonly associated with the performance of the duties of this job.

Indoor and outdoor work environment.

May be exposed to loud noise levels.

Occasionally exposed to inclement weather conditions, rain, and extreme heat.

Must be able to occasionally lift, carry, push and / or pull up to 50 pounds.

Must have sufficient physical ability and mobility to walk, stand, and sit for prolonged periods of time; to frequently stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, crawl, climb, reach, twist, grasp, and make repetitive hand movement in the performance of daily duties.

Must be able to speak and hear clearly to exchange information.

Must be able to have repetitive wrist, hand, and / or finger movement.

Must have finger dexterity and hand-eye coordination in order to work on a computer, telephone, and related office equipment.

Must be able to distinguish colors and smells.

Must have clarity of vision and the ability to adjust focus, judge distance and spatial relationships.
