Director Of Public Works $130,184.00 - $152,501.00 Salary DescriptionThe City of Wentzville is seeking a visionary and experienced Director of Public Works to lead the department. This role is responsible for overseeing the maintenance and operation of City infrastructure, including public property, rights-of-way and easements. The ideal candidate will provide leadership and technical expertise in areas such as stormwater systems, pavements, bridges, streetlights, traffic control devices, parking lots, sidewalks and multi-use paths. Key Responsibilities : Oversee the maintenance and operation of City infrastructure, ensuring efficiency and sustainability.Develop and implement both short-term and long-term goals aligned with the City's strategic direction.Identify and implement process improvements and innovative practices to enhance departmental efficiency.Apply asset management strategies for system maintenance, security, upgrades and preventive care.Facilitate professional responses to government and regulatory agency inquiries.Develop and update risk and resilience plans, mutual-aid agreements and emergency operation plans. QualificationsJob Qualifications Education, experience, and training that are required or desirable in order to effectively perform the job at the time of hire. An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience will be considered. Additional requirements and / or substitutions may be requested and require the approval of HR.Master’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field preferred, bachelor degree required. Minimum of ten years of related experience required. Valid driver’s license required.Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities May be representative, but not all-inclusive, of those knowledge, skills, and abilities commonly associated with this position.Extensive knowledge of public infrastructure for both construction and maintenance, including streets, storm sewers, and facilities. Significant knowledge of the principles, practices, and methods of public works planning, budgeting, design, construction, maintenance, and operations.In-depth knowledge of industry trends. Ability to work on complex issues. Good judge of talent, and the ability to lead, monitor, and supervise employees to achieve goals that contribute to individual and organizational success.Ability to manage and monitor division operations and services and implement procedural changes as needed to improve workflow and productivity.Ability to communicate effectively and professionally with supervisors, subordinates, co-workers, and customers by telephone, in writing, and in person.Ability to develop goals and plans to prioritize, organize, and accomplish work for self and others, as well as concentrate on multiple tasks simultaneously.Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.Ability to work independently and make responsible decisions.Ability to use good judgment and think rationally in difficult or stressful situations.Proficiency in use of basic business software (word processing, spreadsheets, email, presentations) and basic office equipment.Ability to use AutoCAD / ArcGIS software.
