The City of Wentzville is seeking a Fleet Maintenance Supervisor to oversee the budget, contract services, maintenance, inspection, and repair of the city's vehicle and equipment fleet. This role is responsible for leading and supervising employees to ensure operational success through coaching, mentoring, and enforcing performance and quality standards. The ideal candidate will play a key role in hiring, training, and managing team members while ensuring compliance with safety and maintenance procedures.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Supervision & Leadership: Assign, oversee, and organize work for fleet staff while actively managing daily operations under general guidance.
- Safety & Compliance: Promote and enforce on-the-job safety, including proper use of tools, protective gear, and adherence to industry safety standards. Investigate accidents and report incidents as needed.
- Fleet Maintenance & Repair: Perform master mechanic-level work, troubleshooting, maintaining, and repairing gasoline and diesel-powered vehicles and equipment. Provide technical assistance to mechanics as needed.
- Shop Operations: Supervise the operation, inspection, and maintenance of all fleet vehicles and equipment while ensuring efficiency and safety.
- Records & Reporting: Maintain detailed records and generate reports related to fleet operations, maintenance, and inventory.
- Budget & Resource Management: Assist in developing budget recommendations, overseeing maintenance plans, and managing capital projects.
- Performance Management: Conduct employee evaluations, recommend hiring or dismissal decisions, and ensure adherence to performance standards.
- Equipment Operation: Safely operate heavy equipment such as front-end loaders, skid loaders, cranes, jet trucks, sewer cameras, and dump trucks.
- Emergency Response: Respond to winter storm operations on a 24-hour call basis to maintain snow equipment and provide roadside assistance as necessary.

Job Qualifications Education, experience, and training that are required or desirable in order to effectively perform the job at the time of hire. An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience will be considered. Additional requirements and/or substitutions may be requested and require the approval of HR.
- Bachelor's degree in Engine Technology, Fleet Management, or a closely related field or a minimum of five years of relevant experience is required.
- Additional experience in the field may be considered in lieu of a degree.
- Additional job-related advanced degrees or certifications may be considered in lieu of experience.
- ASE Master Certified in either auto/light truck or medium/heavy duty truck is required.
- Certifications preferred or ability to obtain within 180 days of employment:
- Valid Class A CDL with airbrake and tanker
- Certification in Chemical Spill Response
- Prior supervisory experience is desired.
- A valid drivers license is required.
