Under direct supervision, a Lifeguard is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of our indoor and outdoor aquatic facilities. This position ensures the safety of patrons, enforces policies and procedures, and may lead swimming lessons and other aquatic programs. Essential Job Duties
- Provide respectful, professional, and positive service in all interactions with co-workers, internal and external customers, community members, and the public.
- Maintain a positive and productive work environment, ensuring compliance with the policies, procedures, goals, and objectives of the City/Organization, Department, and Division.
- Proactively work to prevent accidents and eliminate hazards in and around the pool and deck areas to provide an enjoyable experience for the public.
- Respond quickly and effectively to emergencies, administering first aid and other appropriate care.
- Vigilantly monitor designated pool zones and address behavioral infractions or safety concerns promptly and professionally.
- Enforce pool rules and regulations consistently and fairly.
- Maintain accurate records of pool usage, incidents, and chemical readings (if applicable).
- Perform routine maintenance tasks, such as cleaning the pool deck, emptying trash receptacles, and organizing equipment.

- Lifeguard certification required by opening of pools to public.
- Prior experience as a lifeguard desired.
- CPR and First Aid certifications are required.
- Knowledge of pool operation guidelines and principles.
- Knowledge of pool chemicals.
- Knowledge of water rescue techniques.
- Skill in decision-making and problem solving.
- Ability to work independently and make responsible decisions.
- Ability to use good judgment and think quickly and rationally in difficult or stressful situations.
- Regular attendance is a necessary and essential job duty.
- Primarily an outdoor work environment.
- Exposed to inclement weather and, at times, extreme heat.
- Exposed to loud noise and irritating chemicals.
- Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.
- Must be able to sit, stand and walk for significant periods of time.
- Must be able to speak and hear clearly.
- Must have clarity of vision and the ability to adjust focus, judge distance and spatial relationships, and identify and distinguish colors.
- Must be able to work under pressure.
- Must work cooperatively as a part of a team and work alone at times.
