Job Summary
Employee is responsible for picking up of brush and bulky items from alleyways with the use of equipment such as skid steer, backhoe, utility tractors, and front loaders. Employee also performs other job duties such as tree trimming, mowing grass, and preventive maintenance of units and equipment.
Essential Job Functions
- Maintain regular and prompt attendance; physically present to work.
- Operates department equipment and vehicles such as a skid steer and hand tools in the completion of a wide range of manual labor projects such as brush cutting, brush loading, brush burning, etc.
- May assist the Brush Collections drivers in an as needed basis, with the collection of brush from streets and alleyways.
- May be required to utilize various hand tools such as metal rake, fan rake, pitchfork, and shovel with the removal of excess brush and debris.
- Required to respond to emergency situations as necessary
- Performs routine maintenance of assigned equipment and trucks.
- Performs other similar or related duties as assigned.
- Employee may be required to work beyond normal business hours at night and/or on weekends.
Minimum Qualifications & Requirements
- Must have a High School Diploma or equivalent.
- One (1) to three (3) years of work-related experience to perform the job.
- Valid Class "B" Texas Commercial Driver License preferred but not required.
- Applicate must pass pre-employment criminal background check and drug screen at City's expense.
- Must successfully complete Emergency Management and Incident Command Training within first three months of hire date.
- Bilingual English/Spanish Preferred.

- Safe and effective operation of equipment and machinery for public works department operations.
- Ability to read and interpret instructions regarding the safe and efficient use of equipment and related materials.
- Ability to recognize unsafe working conditions to ensure that appropriate safety precautions are taken to ensure employee safety.
- Effective motor skills necessary to operate department vehicles, equipment, tools, and machinery in a safe and efficient manner.
Working Conditions/Physical Demands
- Working under extreme weather conditions, excessive heat, and/or excessive cold for long periods of time.
- Work requires moderate intermittent physical strength and effort daily.
- Driving in adverse weather troublesome road conditions may be required.
- Constantly performs work outdoor on a variety of public works projects.
- Exposed to equipment/machinery, noise, odors, chemical fumes, dust, smoke, oil, dirt and/or grease.
- Standing/walking most of the work period, moving in /about construction sites over rough terrain.
- Work includes lifting, moving, and positioning/loading heavy objects (up to 100 lbs.), pulling, pushing, remain stationary or move about for the full workday may also be involved.
