Description
Under general supervision, the Equipment Operator utilizes and operates a variety of tools and material-moving equipment used in the maintenance and repair of streets, water and sewer lines, collection and transportation of solid waste, Inert landfill, transfer station and other utility facilities and services.

SEWERSTREET RIGHT OF WAYWATERExamples Of Duties
Utilizes and operates a variety of tools and material-moving equipment used in the maintenance and repair of City utilities and services, requiring hand and eye coordination to operate levers, joysticks, pedals, etc.Follows engineered drawings and observes survey stakes when excavating areas in order to make proper cuts and fills and stay within identified work zones.
Uses operating skills, learned safe practices and awareness of the area surrounding the unit of equipment to avoid injury or damage to persons or property.
Uses spotters, flaggers or helpers as needed to maintain a safe working environment.?
Inspects equipment prior and after use in order to identify needed maintenance or repairs, and reports repair needs to appropriate personnel for scheduling repairs.
Ensures that equipment is properly fueled and lubricants are at appropriate levels and tires are properly inflated.
Observes and listens to equipment during use to identify malfunctions or parts in need of replacement and shuts down equipment when necessary to prevent further equipment damage or when continued operation creates a safety risk.
Washes equipment regularly and cleans the operator area.
Assists Equipment Technicians with major repairs as assigned.
Performs daily pre-trip inspections
Works safely, follows safe work practices, and identifies and reports unsafe work conditions.
Performs other duties as required or assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent.Valid and unprohibited Class B Commercial Driver's License with tanker and air brake endorsements within six months of hire; must maintain.We will provide Class B CDL training to you at no cost beyond the minimal DMV testing & licensing fees.
You must be eligible to obtain a CDL in your state of residence ( i.e. not disqualified due to driver's license suspension, revocation, or other reason)Ability to create and maintain effective working relationships with peers, superiors, other City departments, vendors, contractors, external government agencies and organizations.Strong communication skills, both orally and in writing.Supplemental Information

Meter Technician - Special Assignment
ADDITIONAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Performs all essential duties and responsibilities of the Equipment Operator.Installs water meters in new construction; repairs water meters; takes water, lead, and copper samples for testing.Reads water meters, performs water turn on / off for non-payment, locates stop boxes, works on frozen water lines, converts meters, and performs service calls.ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS
