TITLE: BUDGET COORDINATOR
DEPARTMENT: FINANCE
GENERAL DESCRIPTION
This position is responsible for budgeting, forecasting, and reporting of results to internal and external stakeholders under supervision.
The work involves development of the annual budget and 5-year plan, working with department heads and other stakeholders, report generation, monitoring of actual vs budgeted results, development of budget transfer requests, and forecasting. Other duties will be assigned including providing back up to various functions within the Finance Department as needed.

Works under the supervision of the Assistant Finance Director or his/her Designee.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Assists in the preparation of the City’s annual budget, including preparation and distribution of budget request forms and compilation and consolidation of request returns into a budget package.
Uploads and Maintains the Annual Budget and Adjustments in the Accounting System for all entities.
Monitors monthly budget comparison reports from City departments for budget compliance. Reconciles funds to bring them into budget compliance. Acts in an advisory capacity to department heads in situations which may require budget transfers or additional funds.
Prepares Budget Transfers for approval by City Council based on Annual Projections supported by analysis.
Analyze monthly spending on Capital Projects and prepare monthly reports.
Prepares budget update projection models to reflect surplus or deficits for the fiscal year. Prepares year end results report as well as other state and federal reports on a regularly scheduled basis.
Prepares journal entries as needed for posting to various City funds and submits them to Assistant Finance Director for approval prior to posting.
Undertakes special Finance Department projects as may be assigned by the Director of Finance or the Assistant Director of Finance.
Provides details and/or schedules as needed to outside auditing firm during City and affiliated entities annual audit.
Prepares ED001 form for submission to State by Board of Education.

Knowledge of the principles and practices of municipal accounting.
Considerable knowledge of budgeting, and computer spreadsheet applications
Ability to manage complex and multiple tasks despite interruptions and changing priorities.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with coworkers, other departments, and agencies.
QUALIFICATIONS
A bachelor’s degree in accounting from a recognized college or university, plus three to five years of progressively responsible accounting work.

Computer, calculator, and standard office equipment.
